Any info on Indianapolis, IN?

Getting ready to drive my truck out to Indianapolis for the National FFA Convention Thursday night to see one of my students get an award. School backed out letting me take a couple of members so I am buring some personal days! Any body got any tips as far as traffic and anything I should avoid with a quad dually? Never been there except once as a kid on a bus passing thru. Staying in Cloverdale, IN. Thanks for any info.

I know the feeling. If my school hadn't stiffed me it would have been all on them, so now as her FFA Advisor I will be there to see her get the American Degree!

I like driving in downtown Indy Spaghetti(sp) bowl. It's like a cross between nascar, rally, and drag racing at once during the right time of day. It's pretty well laid out and not that bad really.

Last time I visited I didn't think it looked that bad to drive in. I guess I'm gonna get a really good education about driving in Indy since I'm loading up to move down there this weekend.

I'm headed that way myself in a few hours, after I finish a statistics assignment, Chem assignment, write 2 papers, iron my official dress, do laundry, and clean my room, why am I on DTR??

Even though I strongly prefer driving my truck, I'm sorta ok with leaving it this weekend. Raleigh traffic is bad enough, don't imagine Indy will be much better.

Good luck with the dually.

It's really not too bad. I don't think you will have trouble parking the truck. I work with a guy that drives a dually and he has to use the downtown parking garages. It's not an easy thing to do, but it can be done. If you are heading to the fairgrounds, I'm sure you won't have trouble parking there. Traffic picks up on the interstate around 3:00 and will stay busy til around 6 - 6:30. Hope you have a good time.

Thanks for the info. I'm hoping I can make it out there in good time tonight. Map quest said it would take like 6 hours! I hope not.

driven that route a couple of times in the last 2 months... just a word of caution, SPEED TRAPS!!! on the west edge of Indy... in between STL & Indy, you'll either see 50 cops or 1

i'll be heading there in a couple of weeks... let me know what fuel mileage you get

Oh Boy!!

Just got a call from a parent out in Indy already, they have been driving around for 2 hours to find a parking space! All lots, garages are full! I'm going to have to get down town at 5:00 in the morning to find a spot! I knew it was going to be bad with 55,000 FFA members in town, but I didn't think this bad. I wish now it was still in Louisville!

Traffic is cake, I park my dually down town all of the time. There are lots of raceing fans here and one of the reasons I love it. There are some seriously built cummins trucks you will see on 465 occaisionaly. Town is awsome, little crime, lots of space. Lots of beer and lots and lots of women.. should be a good time...

I'm in town now, and traffic is really not that bad at all, but with thousands of highschoolers wandering around, and a lot of drivers who don't know where they're going, raining and dark, it can get interesting.

On a side note, the Cummins dually from the dodge display at the career fair parked beside us at the motel parking lot last night. (University Place)

And the Terry Bradshaw is staying at motel we're staying at tonight (Crown Plaza)

Yeah I saw the Dodge display...they had some real nice looking helpers handing out those Dodge bandanas! If it hadn't been raining so much it would have been better, had to park in garage about 5 blocks away, made for a wet walk! Traffic wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The only problem I had was a local police man pulled me over because I didn't have a back plate, had to explain to him that in MO if you have certain weight tags you only need one plate, he tried to make me change the front plate to the back. I have our family farm name plate on the back so we had a nice little discussion, finally he let me go. Some weren't so lucky, I know of one MO family that got a ticket for like $70.00 and had to move the plate! I saw very few law enforcement on the road to Indy and back. My truck still never got better than 16 mpg's, I was hoping for a little better. Overall I can say not too bad of trip.
