I'm hauling a 32' Construction trailer tomorrow and I don't really feel like having to mess with the DOT guys since I'm not actually legal. Just doing a favor for a friend who happens to be paying me. Does anybody know. Or is there a website that will show me all the scales by state?

I don't know of any website but it'll be interesting to see if anyone knows of one. I could use such information myself.

I believe there is one in the Frederick area on I-70. It might only be eastbound though. I guess it depends on which way you go.

just look in a truckers road atlas at any truck stop type place. they list the locations of all permant scales in every state.

Thanks guys. I am aware of the Road Atlas that has them but I didn't plan on stopping until I got to the destination. I'll check those sites......

I hope you realize DOT doesn't just sit in the scales but also patrols the highways and you can be pulled over anywhere .

I am in the trucking industry so I am well aware of that fact.

I drove all the way to Baltimore to pick the trailer up and was quite disappointed to find that the tongue jack was broken, the trailer was sitting too low for me to get under it, there was no trailer plug, only a bunch of wires that were in bad shape, and one of the sheetmetal sidepanels was about to come off and certainly would have going down the highway!! Of course the guy didn't tell me any of this when he was asking me to haul it for him.
There was no way I was going to try to haul that thing 225 miles up and down the mountains of Pa with no brakes!!! So, I chose not to attempt it. There was some good news though!! Since I had nothing else to do today because my family is out of town, I topped off before getting on the highway and set the cruise control at 60 mph. I wanted to see how good of mileage I could get if I slowed down. Well, after 76 miles the overhead was reading 22.8 mpg. It was right at 23 mpg as I got off the highway 3 miles prior. I topped her off with 3.3 gallons for an average of 23.03 mpg!!!!That is just unbelieveable since at 70 mph I only get around 19 mpg!! I can tell you that I will be trying to slow down in the future.........

wow, thats a good reading. I dont travel between Balt. and Pitt. much at all, but I think yer best bet is toll road, ttake 70 out of Balt. then ride the cash road into pitt. I dotn remember any, but quite a few rollers though. Sorry to hear the job trailer was such a mess. Maybe it was a good thing! I'll dig out my truckers atlas n see what i can find.

run the "backroads" like we usually do with a heavy or big load, less of a chance getting nailed. A small St. Rt. here in ohio coming up from the river running up near marysville grain bins is a truckers paradise, 70 mph freight trains of 7 trucks or more, no DOT in sight, unlike 32 towards cincinnati, which is a patrolmans paradise, for some reason ODOT dosent like when your running 110,000 in a 80,000 GCVW rig on the freeway.
