Any auto painters here?
The black section between the door and the QC rear window is peeling. What would be the best way to paint the black on? Peel the sticker off and sand the paint to bare metal or just scuff it up? What about after painting. How do I get rid of the masking line between the black and body color? wet sand? would I have to use a paint that requires a clear coat since the truck's body color uses one? Thx

Not an expert here, but have learned a little from Dad over the years.
You don't want to strip it down to bare metal unless you already have places that are scratched to bare metal. This is because of the primer that is already there, that you want to leave there if possible.
Base coat, clear coat setups are expensive, and they have to be mixed properly. You might be able to get a "mix" of the base coat clear coat, kind of like touch up paint. Check at the local parts store that carries touchup paint. The biggest thing you need to be concerned about is the UV resistance, so that it doesn't fade. That's what makes the new paints so expensive.
I'd go light on paint at the edges, top and bottom, but wouldn't worry too much about the edge it will leave when you pull the tape. My 99 has an edge, and the paint hasn't been touched. It's hard to get away from that.

If mine starts messing up, I'll just replace the sticker/tape whatever it is. I went through paint repair purgatory with Ol' 92 on side panel touch-up and since I'm not a Paint & Body man, I ended up taking it to a local body shop to remove my not so cheap mistake$$$$.
thx guys. If I do attempt this I'll just peel the sticker off and clean up the good paint underneath. Clunk, I am also concerned about "creating a bigger job" then just getting a replacement sticker. Do they even sell those stickers
