Angry Another Reason I Love My 1st Gen Cummins Diesel

The wife's '06 Chrysler 300 (3.5ltr) started dripping green. The water-pump's seal has failed.

- Remove the top of the engine so as to remove the valve-covers so as to loosen the rocker-arms taking pressure off the cam-shafts.
- Remove front of engine: Serpentine drive, power-steering pump, radiator fans (so you can pull the crank-shaft damper), crank-shaft damper, both top and bottom timing-belt covers.
- Align all cam/crank timing marks, remove timing belt hydraulic spring thing, remove timing belt . . . .

So you can get to the water-pump!

Are you kidding me!?

make sure you replace timing belt while you are there cause you will have to do it all over again. also inspect the tensioners. known for failing too.

Oh yes, replacing the timing belt, it's tensioner pulley and associated hydraulic spring. The serpentine accessory drive belt as well.

I'm debating replacing the spark plugs while I'm in it this deep (got to remove the top of the engine to get to them). The FSM says replace them at 100,000 miles. They currently have about 75,000 on them.

Y'all notice the difference in the color of the two banks of rocker-arms and stuff?

The passenger's side is much darker. It appears to be an easily wiped away film of brown.

- That side has the PCV pulling from it. Do you suppose the brown is from the blow-by mess?

Ya its a retarded system. interior plugs at 100k and exhaust plugs every 30k. AND have to remove plenum to get to them. what a bone head move.

ford did the same thing on that triton. have to remove upper plenum AND injector rail to get plugs out.

I've run the Amsoil 7500 mile stuff since we bought it new.

- I'd be a bold-faced lier if I said I changed it at 7500.

I've in the last month filled it with the 25k stuff. I was hoping to get to 100k before I had to dive in.

I'd be afraid to even guess what the factory specs for time to do the work.

I'm not hurting myself though, got all day.
