another computer question

I just got my computer back yesterday from the repairman. It is up and going fine so far with windows ME. Only one problem. The display doesn't fill up the monitor screen. I have about 1/2'' of black on the sides and 1/4'' on top. Any ideas?

Tip a: Look for the buttons on your monitor, usually you can adjust horiz. and vert. size and position.
Tip b: Right click a free area of the desktop, go to settings and look for the resolution slider- adjust according to your monitor. If it only offers 640x480 or 800x600 in max 256 colours the graphics driver is not installed.

Your monitor needs to be adjusted. Usually the better monitors has menu button on the front for making screen adjustments.
Also, is the monitor plug and play? Can check the video properties to see if monitor is detected for the correct resolution and scan frequency. Or use the control panel and go to system and device manager and look for the monitor.

ok I have a full screen now but I thought I really screwed up. I changed the resolution and when it restarted it would bring up a little window that said something like check you video settings and then it would change to a black screen. I finally got it started in safe mode and after trying several things I ended up setting the hardware acceleration to the 1/4 mark and I got the screen back. It is now in high color 16 bit 800 x600. I am afraid to set the hardware acceleration switch up any more. Everything seems ok now except my wife is about ready to put knots on my head if I don't leave it along!
