This happend last weekend at the community my wife manages. Six different cars no connection and all four tires on each car where done. She calle dth ecop friend she has and they are stepping up the patrols but not much more that can be done.

I wonder what the tire would do if it was filled with Nitrogen like the race cars?

Nothing special. It would leak out of the hole just like normal air does.

Another option :

Take a rear-tractor-tire fluid-fill pump and fill the tires with "Doe in Heat" lure; now, let him stick his knife into that.

Once someone screws the cap off of a bottle of that stuff and holds it under your noseand says "here, take a whiff of that", your nostrils are forever more scarred for life; for the next few days afterwards, everything you eat will taste like that stuff smells.

One thing for sure, the "canine units" should be finally able to actually find the culprit, without losing the scent.

A shotgun would help solve your problem.

First things first confront who you think did it. No point in holding a grudge if you dont know who its against.. It could have possibly been a random act.

And if after confronting you get a warm feeling that it wasnt them, and it never happens again, chalk it up to a random act and forget about it.

I definetly would hesitate on installing brand new expensive tires though.. If it is a targeted crime to you specifically then expect more of it.. Slashing tires is only the beginning of a long fued.
