Alaska Arctic Circle Road Trip

Well, here I sat in Anchorage for a week with nothing to do. Yesterday I decided to take a little road trip to the Arctic circle. I left anchorage at 0645 and by 1645 I was sitting at the arctic circle taking in the beauty.

I had a rental Ford Expedition that treated me real well. My only complaint was I was a little tight on fuel. I brought an extra 5 gallons on top of the 28 that the truck held, and I barely had enough to make fairbanks.

The round trip from anchorage and back took 18 hours driving time and covered 1100 miles. What a beautiful state this is. I sure wish I had my truck with me.

I'm trying. Can you tell me how to shrink it down a little so it can fit.

If you using Windows, use the Windows Paint program. It's under Programs/Accessories. Use Streatch/Skew to reduce the size by percentage, and Attributes to check the size.

OK, I am officially in a real bad mood. Thanks alot.

Just kiddin. Great pictures. I spent 20 years in the USAF trying to get stationed in AK. They must of thought I was crazy, cuz I ended up in Biloxi.

One of these days........

AK is pretty high on the places to be stationed list in the military. Good luck!

The nicest part of the trip north of fairbanks was that I was able to shut the cell phone off( It didnt work anyway) and shut the radio off(It didnt work either) Not too many places left in this country where you can be totally isolated like this. It was good for the mind.

Next time I come up here I will plan a little better and take the Dalton Hwy all the way to the arctic ocean. I think during the summer months you can get a motel in coldfoot about 1 hr north of the Arctic circle. I'll bring more gas cans also.
