Aftermarket Power Locks
Aftermarket Power Locks
Does anyone have any experience adding aftermarket keyless entry/remote starter to their truck? I've been thinking about doing this and would appreciate any info...thanks!
I've done both....some systems are
enough to make a person start drinking, or keep drinking. You pretty much get what you pay for. I've installed systems and then the main ECM is not functional, which means pretty much start over....
.
I just installed remote door poppers (for shaved handles) on my street rod....get ready for some fabrication.
Unless you really have a good afternoon to kill, or feel the need to kill someone(work alone if this is the case), I'd pay someone to do the wiring and dirty work.

Thanks for the advice Bob! Your reply describes pretty much the experience that I've had installing stuff like this on other vehicles. Always a bigger pain than it should be and requiring a sea of beer afterwards.. I guess I was hoping there would be something that just bolted right in to the pre drilled holes and plugged right into the empty connector on the harness (Ha!)...
Here is the gizmo I was thinking of attempting...

you might want to look at car alarms too with the remote start. if your going to be in there adding things might as well go all the way. if you have an auto get the remote start and turbo timmer. i have a clifford alarm on my 95 GMC sonoma and i love it. I know about an alarm that is comming out by clifford in a little bit ( its not out yet) but im going to put in on the dodge, when the 15's subs go in. they have ones now that have computer screens on the remote to tell you whats going on. they vibrate when something is wrong, up to about 1/4 mile.
I bought a remote start for our Durango . It has the option for remote door locks but needs an additional adapter . Best to have it installed by a pro . I think it can be done at Circuit City .
I think I'm going to put them in my '92 taurus before I do the same for my truck. I've always felt that the overall quality of a vehicles engineering can be seen in the areas where most people don't look too close, such as the door panels... nothing like the thought of broken retainer clips and flapping door panels to make you not want to rush into this type of project... i'll post a message after doing it...
I have done the door locks the shaved door handles, all types of alarms and just did a paging alarm with an LCD screen on the transmitter reciever on my truck. I plan to start a door popper opener with 5 or 6 extra channels for other remote uses. I have used all of the channels in the alarm. Next year I will do a Lambo door kit on the truck. You need to be good with electrics, folow schematics, and able to wire in relays as needed. If this isn't you have it done by a professional.

dslram...lemme know how that lambo kit works out, i have been pondering that for almost a year now, saw them on a dodge that DUB wheels had lifted at laguna seca last year...looks sweet, i have heard tho that you get ALOT of wind noise with them...just hearsay tho...what kit in particular were you looking at?
At the present my top choice it the GT Factory Diablo kit, but that could change several times before I actualy buy a kit. The Diablo kit seems to be by far the strongest kit I have found do far. I need to pull the door panels and check the pull needed to open the door locks. If anyone out there knows how many pounds of pull is needed I would appreciate the info.
