Advice...daddy don't wanna go to jail...
Friday afternoon at my oldest's school there was an altercation. A little info. The oldest (11) is a right good looking boy. Tall for his age, dark hair and blue eyes. Lots of girls like him. He's in the sixth grade now. Friday 5 seventh graders jealous of him interacting with older girls I suppose started pushing him around then grabbed him, hit him and threw him down. All were involved, not just one or two. He got back up only to be thrown over a wooden fence. He got up one more time and was able to hit one back in the face. He was then choked and thrown down again. They backed off but threatened to get him on monday. His story. He has visible injuries from this and a dad with very little control right now. The wife and I are going to the principal in the morning about this. Unable to get a call back on Friday. This was in view of the teachers present but only one was there and was busy with loading students into their cars. I understand a one-on-one or even a two-on-one bully issue but this has crossed the line. I'm too clouded to see a reasonable solution to this right now. Please keep me out of jail.

yes-stay cool( i know it's hard to). Going to the principle is for now the best you can do. The kids by right should be expelled( zero tollerance clause). Fwiw-perhaps send your kid to self defence classes-it takes time, but skills leaned will be of great value in the future

I agree with Ed. Kids will be kids, but numbers like that on one kid, espically if it is yours... They'll stop that crap in a hurry when the boys in blue show up.
We had a problem like this a while back with my oldest, and I had a stern talk with the principal. It cleared things up in a jiffy.
I'm sorry to hear that, buddy. Keep your cool, you're no good to anyone if you're in trouble, too. Hope your boy heals up ok, and I'm glad he's not hurt bad.

See what the principle has to say Monday morning. Keep in mind that contrary to what some schools believe, they don't supercede the police if they happen to try to keep it inhouse and the results are unsatisfactory. A lot of schools these days even keep a police liaison or DARE officer on the grounds or in close access.
***Edit, Police should've been contacted Friday, but reporting this late, theyll probably have you wait til Monday anyway, when they can contact everybody is at the same place, which is what i was getting at with the Dare idea. Take pictures of the wounds tonight though, while the injuries are apparent.

That's the safest thing to do at this point tho, in addition to talking to the principal tomorrow. Got to admire the kid tho for standing up to that many of them!

Thanks guys. The crappy thing is they have an S.R.O. there but he's out when the bell rings. This was on school property, where a kid should be safe.
He's a tough and stubborn nut just like his dad, so there were no tears until he got home. I'm cool for the proper resolve. We'll see how it goes.

First, get pictures of his injuries, lots of pictures. Remember that the injuries change every day and they'll look worse before they get better. Pictures are real handy if you end up in court. Notify the police jurisdiction that covers the school and file a report. It doesn't matter what they think, do it! After that, contact the school and get the ball rolling there. An important question to me would be why the teacher who witnessed the assault didn't do more to stop it. Lastly, and this is the hardest part, be open to the possibility that you may not have gotten the entire story. I always tried to encourage parents to learn three words, never say never. They're kids, they will do dumb things, they have to learn, they don't listen and they will embellish the truth or even just lie at times. Many times things aren't as they appear or even as they have been told to you. I'm not implying that's the case here, just pointing out the possibility.

Thanks Rick. I am ready for that possibility but keeping it on a side burner. The teacher(s) there didn't see the incident. The kids told him if he told anyone it would get much worse. He kept his mouth shut out of fear and just got in the car. He didn't talk to my wife til later. Phone calls were made to the school but only voicemails were got. I wasn't told until I got home alot later. To make him feel better she let him go to dinner with one of his friends so I couldn't see the injuries when they were new. The fact that it was all five involved and not just one or two with three standing around has my fuse lit. There were kids present and I hope get asked for their story. His injuries aren't all that bad. Just a nail scratch or two remain on his neck. The rest were red marks from the grabbing going on. Got pictures though. He's a tough kid but still a kid. Five on one ain't right in any situation. I'm not taking it lightly, I just don't wanna see it escalate into injuries that will be permanent.

I agree and you shouldn't take it lightly. This is the kind of stuff that goes south very quickly. When a gang, and that's what this is, starts beating on someone it only takes one kick to the head or neck take a life or incapacitate a child forever. If you have a pocket recorder, carry it discreetly as you move through tomorrow's meetings.

If they're threatening retaliation, the officer will probably explain your local procedure for a protection order. You should be given a "crime victims rights" form of sorts, with contact numbers, report numbers, court info, etc. Your state probably has all this info readily available on a websight. You'll probably see that most is directed towards domestic violence, but the crime victims rights info is a fed. requirement for all crime victims.

Thanks Don. I just don't want to have to sit down one day and have to think to myself that I should've done something the first time it happened. Nip it in the bud. Taking action now should be the right thing to do.
Thanks again to all of you and your advice. I'll report back on tomorrow.
