Stupid enough to be president. Apparently more than half the country are "stupid" and not as good as you northern and western folks. Just because you disagree with someone makes them stupid? Do you know how many "stupid" yankees have asked me if Texans still ride horses everywhere? Are you kidding? Do you guys still wear powdered wigs?
The only true generalization is that people who generalize are usually "stupid" themselves.

I certainly hope you are not using the current president as an example of a "smart" president. Rove got him in and Ole Deadeye Dick runs the show from behind the scenes. Look, everyone is an individual and I am sure tens of thousands of Texans have graduated from Harvard, MIT, Brown, Princeton and even Yale. The comment about riding horses prooves stupid isn't uniquely a southern thing. BTW: I never mentioned the word stupid or if someone was "as good" or not. Sorry if you have a hangup about it. I will say the propensity of comments on this thread show no grasp of the wiretap issue or the importance of having someone stand up for the minority or unpopular beliefs. They do represent some real backward thinking IMHO, but that and $2.50 gets you a gallon of diesel.
Shovelhead, your graph should refer to the value of the thread, not only your post...
People arguing about Texas; why?
People complaining about the ACLU's defending of people who you hate: isn't it important that everybody has a say in America?
Just like a criminal trial; it doesn't matter what the man did, or how many people saw him do it, he still must have adequate legal representation that will try its hardest to support him. The chances of a serial murder being acquitted after he slaughters 20 people and records the killings is nil, but he still must have defense. His rights, since he is American, do matter; it would be hypocritical and ignorant to not allow him defense, even though it is certain he will fry anyway.
The ACLU (which I can't believe I'm defending, by the way) is like a criminal defender in a court of law. They don't necessarily (in theory) support the American ****'s, or the gays, or anybody else; they desire (in theory) only to ensure that everybody, including the ****'s and Commies, get a voice in the country. Now in reality, ACLU really is operated by Commies and ****'s. But there supposed purpose is valid. And despite that anyways, I still defend the ACLU because, like the serial killers' attorney, they will not be effective if what they're attempting to do is obviously wrong. If they are effective, then they deserve to be.
In short, I prefer that the ACLU acts as a mouthpiece for the Commies and the ****'s and whoever, because that way nobody can cry "oppression" or "unconstitutionality". At least that way there is no oppression and unconstitutionality. The ACLU is just the ACLU, it does not have any more power than you give it. But it is vital to America that they are free to advocate their opinions as strongly as possible. Would it really be a better alternative to ban or censor the ACLU? Just because you don't agree with them, which I do not, does not mean that you have to hate them.

Glad that you support the ACLU. To bad the law in the US doesn’t really matter as much as who is a better lawyer. If all lawyers were the same then OJ would never have gotten off, or Michael Jackson for that matter. Now you have some serious nutcases in the ACLU who have some decent lawyers go up against another that isn’t good. Guess what happens. We loose rights.
As a side note for the TX and stupid southern believers. What were the 2 richest states prior to the Civil War? South Carolina and Louisiana! Thanks for all the economic help from the carpetbaggers!!! The north caused many of the problems that still exist today. Maybe we should get the ACLU to sue for our constitutional right to succeed. Until then MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

I'll give it to you, but on a technicality. GW as well as the old man spent most of their primary edumacation time at the wildly expensive Philips Andover Academy up here in Andover. MA. GW was born in New Haven, CT and attended Yale in where?.....again New Haven, CT. So does that make your boy a real Texan?....I mean does that make him a genuine cowboy hat wearin, horse ridin', bronco bustin' Texan? Mmmm...I think not!
