The abused and neglected...
The abused and neglected...
A somewhat foggy and damp morning on the way to work. Just enough water on the roads to make them slick.
I saw one there on the side of the road.
Not the first I've seen, and certainly more to come shortly.
Pretty obvious someone had just gotten tired of it and decided to get rid of it.
It was just sitting there, lost.
Once, it might have been full of life.
Sleek and full, a picture of health.
Now, it was almost skeletal.
Bedraggled.
Neglected.
Unloved.
Unwanted.
Too much effort for the owner to take it to a place where they will take care of it.
A cruel and heartless act, perpetrated on an innocent thing.
Once, the family gathered around it, happy and thrilled with it, and it reflected their love and joy back to them.
Now abandoned because they grew tired of it and having to provide it care, it sits there where it was left, a victim of mecurial moods, of changing emotion.
Perhpaps that family will one day be looking through some pictures, and see it again when it was their favorite, and they will comment on how lovely it was, how wonderful it was to have it.
Maybe one day they will feel a twinge of guilt for what they have done.
But for now it has been cast aside.
We will drive by it.
Oh, we might take some scant notice, and think "What a shame that someone has done this thing".
But we won't stop.
We will go about our oh-so busy lives.
It's not our problem, you see.
Eventually, it will die, and some roadcrew will come along and pick up it's whithered, dessicated remains from the side of the road.
Poor Christmas Tree.
From glory to the gutter in just a few short weeks.

Luckily, I burn my tree every year...bout to go light it up now, as a matter of fact.
Most places I've been stationed in have a grinding of the greens or a recycling area for the trees...

There are no shortage of places around here to take your tree to for free to be chipped either.
For some, it seems to be a christmas tradition to dump their tree in a ditch...

Thought that was describing Pelosi at first...
Some of the local municipalities here have turn in spots, also available for yard waste, to grind up into mulch, Then, people can have the mulch or chips for free for their gardens. Some places also collect the trees and set them on the ice on lakes that lack underwater structure. Come springtime, baitfish have a new home. Good idea to skip the tinsel.
