Re:Would you option to have no warranty if...

I would go with the NO warranty option. Frankly the only time I have had trouble is when the Dealer has touched my truck!<br><br> I think that their are far too few Mechanics who know these trucks and even fewer of those work at a dealership. Doing my own work I know what i have once it is completed.

I have never ownded a truck with a warranty.<br><br>I dont know if that makes me cheap, poor, or just paranoid of other mechanics. Either way, at this point, Ive never had a dealer do any work on any of my trucks.<br>(Not that I have anything against dealers, just never needed one).<br><br>If I cant turn a wrench to fix it becuase of time, skill, or tools, Ive always had enough contacts to get it done by someone who knows what theyre doing.<br><br>Rich<br><br>

Re:Would you option to have no warranty if...

Yes some people defintely would go for a no warranty=cash savings sort of deal but the problem I see with that would be the manufactures build quality would probably go in the toilet. Especially in the short run.<br><br>The warranty gives the manufacture some liability to the job they did building your vehicle along with it's component quality etc.<br><br>Take that liability away and do you think they are going to work any harder than they are now to build a quality product??? ??? ??? Probably not.<br><br>The other thing would be what about lemon laws etc????<br><br>ie. if there were no warranty lemon lawds probably wouldn't work.<br><br>and EVERY manufacture throws out lemons.<br><br>I wouldn't want to be the sucker who got stuck with the lemon.<br><br>However in theory, it would be a sweet deal for those of us who want to buy a truck, bomb it right away and void the warranty anyway. ;D

It would be an interesting question to pose to these guys<br>http://forums.thedieselstop.com/ubbt...2003Drivetrain<br>I think any manufacturer at any time is capable of making a huge blunder. So you buy a truck for 40k rather than 45k and then have to spend 8k to get a new motor within the first 100 miles and still not have any guaranty the new motor was any better... I'm not that much of a gambling man. I would stick with the waranty thanks...

Re:Would you option to have no warranty if...

I would love to save 5 grand and buy one without a warranty. I've had 5 vehicles in the last seven years and have never had a warranty issue. Course, maybe I've never kept any long enough to see any problems [undecided].
Flip side- I work with a guy who bought a 99 (I think..)
with a 53 block and low and behold it's cracked. 160K miles on it. I wish Cummins would own up to their error...

Interesting question, Scotty.<br> <br>This presents a couple questions:'<br>1) will the product be as good if you don't have to warrant it?<br>2) if the product is as good, how much will the price be lower if it has no warranty?<br><br>What is an extended warranty? It is some company taking an educated and calculated gamble that you will pay more for your warranty than they will pay out in repairs (and they will obviously try investing your money and make money on it).<br><br>Personally, I don't intend to do any major bombing, so the warranty does have a lot of merit to me. I prefer having the warranty. <br><br>ChickenBob

Re:Would you option to have no warranty if...

I don't think quality control would come into play that much.
-if-
They would not know what trucks out the door are going to be sold without the warranty and which ones with.

Except maybe for the Special Ordered trucks, if they saw the &quot; No Warranty&quot; on the order, they might scrimp a bit.

It would have to be an option either taken or passed on after vehicle is ready for delivery.

As I have already had a major issue covered under warranty (umbombed VP44 at 4,000 miles) I would be one that would want the warranty.
Albeit, maybe a shorter one for a bit cheaper.
Maybe a 2 or 3 year instead of the 7 year/100,000.

Already have the itch to void, and have done some modifying that I'm sure has voided my suspension and most of the drivetrain, and shortly the exhaust.
Just not ready to be 100% my own warranty station

Re::)

I'm curious about that as well. I've seen two pretty informative threads because useless in terms of being searchable. Once you change a thread like that, it ruins the search engine's ability to find it, and I thought the two you changed were pretty informative. So I guess I want to ask the same question, why?
