350 burnin oil
350 burnin oil
Hey guys, my buddy has a 1993 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup truck with a 350. It has 100,000 miles and burns a good bit of oil on a regular basis. Just recently, it started to burn even larger amounts of oil over a short period of time, and now raw oil comes out the exhaust. It also intermeadialy runs bad with this too. We pulled a plug out and it was heavily coated. Why is oil coming out the exhaust now? Any ideas?
Sure sounds like the 350 is pouring way more oil into the combustion chamber than before....I would say with those miles, I don't think its the rings...I know Chev had problems with valve seals. For how cheap valve seals are,I would install a new set and give it a try....Just about every chev V8 I owned needed the seals...Even my 235 in my "56 Chev needed them...Does the 350 puff blue after not running for a while??

Pull the valve covers and clean the oil returns in the front and back of the heads. They plug up causing oil to pool in the valve train area causing it to bypass the seals. It was a common problem and a lot of motors got changed out needlessly because of it.
