Here we go...my wonderful old, solid, 3-way ball is stuck (and slightly rusted) in place in my hitch. Now I need to change it to the 2" ball, and the 2 3/8" (I think) is what is pointed up.

I have drenched the thing in Wd-40, go the pin out and drenched there too. Several times, over and over. Tried a dead-blow hammer - it laughed at me. I have a new 4-lb short-handle hammer I'm going to try tomorrow.

Anyone have a secret solution? I've used Kroil in the past on other things, but before I go and buy some, I wondered if something better is out there.

I'll assure you all this, it's going to get well cleaned off, and coated with anti-sieze before it goes back in...

Penetrating Blaster (PB) has always worked for me. Otherwise, you might try the heat wrench and a BFH.

I had an old Ford once that I left the ball hitch in the reciever ( I forget how long, but too long) Tried penetrating oil. heat , bfh, etc. I even tied a chain around it and to a post and even that didnt work. Dont mean to discourage you but good luck with it and dont give up.....

Heat is your friend. Get it good and warm with a torch and get after it.

Get it tied to a post then put a strain on it then take and hit the side of it .Or before you pull on it trie and hit it in as like you trying to drive it in hard then pull.If this don't work pull and get bigger hammer.

If the hitch is really stuck I bet the post comes out easily!!


+2 on the heat is your friend. NOT glowing red hot but good and warm and then a BFH and some good smacks should do it.

And after all that, repeat until it comes out...........

Had one on my old Chebby, took about 2 months to get it out, working on it once a week with penetrating old, pressure, and heat. Finally came out.

Hint, don't hook it to anything you need to stay in one piece.

Story for ya..

I had the same thing happen to me about 3 years ago. So I decided to chain the hitch to an old oak tree at mom and dads. The first try, I just tried letting all the slack out and then letting the weight of the truck pull it out. That didn't work so I tried a little running start and that didn't work. So after a few more attempts I was starting to get pretty aggravated so I really slammed it. Well needless to say, the back end of the truck came off the ground about 2 feet and I kissed the steering wheel with my face. Dad thought that was pretty funny to watch. He then proceeded to the barn for his set of torches. It took about 5 minutes to remove with heat

Well guys I was attempting to be smart...but now I can say i was just being funny lol.

I know its a little nasty to deal with, but I greased the hitch shaft before putting it in. Always comes out, just have to have gloves on.

Heat it up, tap it in a bit, then work it out.
I tried the chain to a pole and the pole is now bent.
Torched it for about 10 min all over the recvr, whacked it with a sledge...in further, then got under the truck and whacked it three times and it popped out on the third hit.

This all happened after I tried hammering it out for nearly an hour with WD 40 and other lubes poured all over it. Oh yeah, I wiped it all down before the torch hit the recvr and still had some flames.

Yep - problem is about a year ago I had a friend with a skid steer on his trailer - and a dead truck. Threw it in with nothing on it and it's stuck now good.

Last time I had this problem, it took a BFH and about 30 minutes of hit and wiggle.

Spray some stuff in there for a few days, use some heat. (careful not to catch fire!)

Good luck is all I can say.
