2013 and the groundhog has spoken!
if he doesn't, only a month and a half...
I wonder what the official definition of winter is EXCEPT for the meteorological one that says December 21 to March 21? March is typically the snowiest month of the year in this part of Alberta. The temperatures typically warm up enough that the air can hold enough moisture for serious snow. As I was discussing recently, we already have big snow here on the east side of the Rockies. It isn't the worst amount of snow I have ever seen but we still have a LONG way to go to get to spring.
I'm ready for spring. We now have exceeded our record snowfall record. And once again flooding is of great concern. We just had a mini blizzard blow thru here with wind gusts over 90 kmh. 3 foot snow drifts. More snow today. I hope the one month and 14 days happens sooner then the 6 weeks. What's that in Canadian?
Scotty, I suspect spring meltwater is going to be a real issue. The ski hills opened the earliest they have ever opened last fall and it has just kept snowing all winter. As I mentioned, I have some impressive drifts here at home. The main one, along my northern fence line is 800ft long, about 40 feet wide and it tops out about 4 or 5 feet high. That is a lot of snow.
Unfortunately for you, Alberta's melting snow heads through your fine province on its way to Hudson's Bay.

We just got a fresh dusting of snow last night, a whopping half inch. The +10C temps and rain this past week melted off what snow we had left after the last warm spell a couple weeks ago.
