2004 Ram 1500 4x4 - 20" wheel question

I have a friend here at work that has a 2004 Ram 1500 4x4 with the 20" wheels, and he wants to change them out with smaller wheels. Is there any reason (large calipers, brakes, etc.) that you cant put a smaller rim on there? Maybe 17"?

Thanks.

17" wheels is the standard wheel size for the 1500's.
