They use "magneto's" inside the engine.

looks like from a breif search, the thing has an alternator on it.

It wont start from the battery, will it run with the battery disconnected?

Solid state stator, Polaris has not had magneto's for quite some time.

well going against what dad said that the battery was still good i went and put it on the charger and it comes back to life so maybe not so much the alternator but possibly a dead battery possibly from the annoyance that this thing has had of not idling for week or so so i need to figure out how to make it ideal

Those are not EFI'd so there will be a little **** off the side of carb and also an adjustment in the throttle cable up by the handlebars. If you get a good battery in it and it still won't start but just turns over, but will start with the rope you probably need a valve adjustment.

could be a problem in the charging system.

with the engine running, the fan should have still worked. There may have just been enough juice in the battery to run the engine electronics. Im not familiar enough with small engines to know how they work.

i found on the drivers side a Phillips screw in a sleeve that runs to the passenger side of the carb and all it did screwing that in an out was make the throttle really touchy? these have a i believe a electronic throttle on them oh great like apps ya know but i know thats not my problem but the darn thing wont idle an that i think is killing the battery.

If you screw the phillips screw in it should turn the idle up, If your valves are out of adjustment enough you will screw this in far enough to make it idle while cold but once the engine warms up it will idle way to high.
