1979 Ford Parts

Anyone know of a good source for finding Ford F-250 parts?

The mud truck I posted about earlier is an 88, but the front axle in it is a 79 Dana 60. I need both front hubs, (the ones that hols the wheel bearings, not locking hubs), but they're not being made by any aftermarket manufacturer that I can find, no junk yards around here have anything and NAPA is at a dead end.

There's GOT to be some around somewhere and I need to find 'em!

Hmmm, it just so happens I may have access to those parts right here in my town. One of my friends is a die hard blue oval guy from yesteryear with a very large collection of said items.

WOW! Wouldn't THAT be cool if he had what I need? AND would part with them!

Not sure if you've already done it, but this is a pretty decent site for checking out salvage yards. I've ordered a few things from places out of state when I couldn't find them close.

Thanks Tim! You can't believe how much that will help us out if he has them! I'm at the point now, unless the guy at NAPA finds something, that we'll have to look at replacing the whole axle if we can't find replacements. And I don't know what I'd replace it with. Gearing would be another problem. This clam has 5.11 gears with lockers. I doubt NAPA guy will find anything... he's been looking for 2 weeks now. This is the heavier of the 2 axles available that year as well. I'm told it's a 1 ton axle, but again, I don't think Ford HAD a 1 ton 4X4 in '79.

The only other thing I can think of is welding the inside of the old hubs and having it machined back down to accept the inner bearing race. That's the problem with the old ones; they were run with loose bearings and the races spun and made the hubs a bigger I.D. I don't know if a machine shop could even get in there to do what I'm proposing, but it's the only thing I can think of besides replacement.

a competent machinist ( jobber guy, not one of the sensitive new age CNC guys ) Can do just about anything. I have had the pleasure of working with quite a few over the years, and they will always come up with what you require.

And on edit, if you get me a couple pictures of what you're trying to do, I may just be able to instruct you on exactly how to save it.

It is a long shot.

chaikwa you know of this site:

http://www.lmctruck.com/

Are your hubs "locking hubs" bolt on or integral?

I might have some of each as well let me know, I have 2 - Broncos (78 & 79) that I converted to 3/4 ton running gear with 4 wheel disc brakes..

Like pind posted these are repairable, just build the inside up with some brass and have it machined down to specs (been there done that many times)

Thats the most popular axle ever in the off road world. Parts are available everywhere for a high pinion Dana 60. Is it for sure a 60? The F250s were offered with a half breed D44 that was 8 lug.

Here is just about any hub setup you could ask for for that axle.

If it is a dana 60 the only place that I have found for front hubs is
4WDFactory.com . They are casting new hubs.

The hubs are at NAPA right now. I'm going to call them in the AM and if they're not getting anywhere, I'm going to pick up the old hubs so I at least have them. I'll grab a couple of pics when I get them back here.

I have the manually locking style, but that's not the hub I need. I need the big cast steel inner housing that the locking hub attaches to.

Oh yeah, it's a HP Dana 60, no doubt in my mind about that!
