Put it in Neutral, set parking brake, shut it down after 10-30 seconds, then slip it into 1st or 2nd.

I put on the park brake, let it cool, then shut it down. Unless I'm on a hill, I won't put it in gear.

Speaking of freezing, when we have cold weather, we have a flood of rain that freezes.

I have had to jerk loose frozen parking brakes more than once.

On another parking brake note, working around our tire shop most of my life, I learned at an early age not to mess with the parking brake on customers vehicles.

99% of them have never been used, not even once, and the steel cables are rusted into the housings.

If they get applied, they weld themselves for good.

Once in a while, someone will unknowingly set someones brake, and we get to explain to an irate customer why their rear wheels won't turn, and why we shouldn't be held responsible for their neglect.

Foot on the brake, throw it in neutral, release the clutch, set parking brake, let him cooldown, shut him off, throw it in 1st gear.

Since my driveway is at a decent ascent/descent, I always park my truck in 1st, and with the parking brake on. No real "order" in which it all gets done, though

Also, since I like to see where I'm going, I back my truck up onto the driveway. That way, I can visually "see" if any little kids, or something else, is in my way when I leave again.

I mash the clutch before I kill the ignition. Something to do with the 2 piece flywheel. It makes much less noise with the clutch depressed than without pressing on the clutch.

me too.......
My Clutch safety interlock has been by-passed, so she will start in gear...the BOSS almsot went through the side of the house right after I first bought the truck, ( I've , of course NEVER done anything like that) so i am leary about leaving it in gear when I park....

This is my first manual (truck at least) I have never left any of my cars in N, just leaves me the chance of starting it, popping my foot off the clutch and finding myself THROUGH the side of the house.

or one of the big red concrete filled poles in front of a Sheetz gas station...they are there to stop you from driving thru the store...AND THEY WORK

8,000lbs truck, 1st/granny gear, dump the clutch from idle...Pole-1 Truck-0

and you all thought i put that big black steel bumper on my truck because it looked good...but the truth is it was much cheaper to build than to buy a new stocker

I always kill the engine and set the parking brake. If I'm going to be pulling out of my parking space forward, I then slide it into 2nd gear (6 speed). If I'm going to be backing out of my parking space, I slide it into Reverse. Then when I get ready to leave I press in the clutch, crank 'er up and let 'er roll.

Ever since I had a starter solenoid short out and engage the starter, (slamming the truck thru a garage door and accross the street at 3 AM), I've left every standard tranny I own in neutral when it's parked. Takes a little more effort to make sure the parking brakes are in good order all the time, but it's cheaper than garage doors, parked cars and sides of houses!

Put it in neutral, set the parking brake, listen to the radio while it cools off, and put it in first before I get out.

put it in neutral, set parking brake, let her idle, cool down a bit, open door and let my foot hang out with my hand on the key thinking, "have I let it cool long enough?" shut it off, leave in neutral.
