Coffees good, no crtitters got to the fritters yet. Been hearing about the SC officer. Probably a slow response because if it's like up here the next available to respond was probably clear across the county, if he could break off what he was working on. Somebody got the guy assigned to respond in that area. Probably took a second to do some status checks and find somebody not responding as well. Did I hear they got the guy now?

I don't have audio at my console today, I'll check them out later though, thanks. Without hearing them, I will say you guys cannot believe the volume of pranks we get from cell phones. There is nothing we can do about it, and the kids know it. The old ones change hands so many times and numbers are reassigned to new phones. Your phone number could on a dozen phones that have been lost, stolen, or donated. If somebody needs help on thier valid number, and thier old phone(with same number) has been used as a toy by thier kids for 6 months, they'll probably get a delayed response. Our state is onboard with Kentucky right now (Kentucky spearheading) to push the FCC to allow 911 to be deactivated from a problem, deactivated phone case-by case.

For you guys who havent dealt with this stuff, if you think about how long the shooting lasted, probably less than three minnutes from start to finish, and then think about how long it took for the dispatch to receive the info, and pass it on, and a car to respond, its not hard to see how this can happen......
Everyone thinks the big citys like LA and NY are dangerous places, but there are more officers killed in remote littel towns and rural areas thabn in big citys....its easier.......
say a prayer for the small town minimum wage cops... they deserve it....

Our trooper union will probably fund a rep to attend the funeral. Hope his family is fairing well.

Don, my FTO( Cpl Marci Carlson) was medicaled after being beaten literally to near death by two guys during a traffic stop... they had no priors, just drunk and knew no-one was around to help the deputy.....she put out an officer in danger, her closest back was 62 miles away.......she has had seven surgerys on her face, had part of her intestines removed, spent 4 years in PT......seems like alot of folks dont apreciate what small town cops and deputy sheriffs go thru or the risks they take..............

Since it's the breakroom, I guess we're not hijacking anything, so I'll give you a story too. On a midnight shift during an ice storm, we heard the single county dep get dispatched to a domestic on the other side of the next county. There were only 2 of us on in our post area (2 counties), so we had to double-up in a 2 man car. The deputy was an 8 month veteran female, with no relief comeing on for at least 2 hours after her shift ended. They relied on us to cover their down time along with a busier county we had to cover. About halfway there, at 45 mph, we took out a deer and lost the drivers headlight. It was pretty funny hearing all the swearing and watching the overhead reflect off the deer as it spun through the air in slow motion, like the cow in twister. It was too icy to touch the brakes, and at 3 in the morning, no cars on the road, luckily. Fortunately, we heard the deputy say she was stuck in a ditch about a mile from the house, so she wasn't takeing it herself, I'm sure she wasn't gonna wait for back-up. We finally got there and handled the call, then pulled her out, and went back to the post to change cars. It could've gone bad for her or anybody really.

I worked nights for 7 years... my patrol area when we had a 'full shift" was 680 sq miles and included 4 small towns that had no or part-time depts.....when we were short a officer it went to aout 1400 sq miles.
It wasnt bravado to not take a back officer, it just wasnt an option so you never worried about it.. ..
one night i had the north half the county and Cpl Tibbets had the south.... he stopped a guy at the south Topeka city limtis and got two NCIC hits for armed robbery and agg battery on a leo out of SC on the guy...
guy got out of his car waving a pistol and Tibbets called for help......
City said they had no units available and the highway patrol's closest unit was 70 miles east near Kansas City.....
Two city units clocked me at 108mph coming thru Topeka( downhill with a tailwind ) ....... they filed a formal complaint on me for reckless driving( speed) Didnt go too far..

By the time I got there, Rodney had the guy cuffed and stuffed....

Funny how they were able to see the radar when they were so busy. I theres no crash, there's no such thing as reckless going to those. Just gotta keep in the back of your mind you can't help if you can't make it there. Lunchtime....

Stories like that are exactly the reason that made me subscribe to the 'Stop! no. BANG!' theory. If I told someone to stop and they refused, they were gonna get shot. There was NO way I was gonna get the snot beat outta me, or get killed, for a $14/hour job. That theory was also why I was asked to re-evaluate my career choice!

You guys have a thankless job and I applaud anyone that can do it with professionalism and proficiency.

It's a rough world out there. I feel for the police officers and peace officers that have to deal with that kind of stuff. I'm a big fan of shoot first and ask questions later...

Afternoon everyone, hope you had a good weekend.

Sad to hear about the officer, my condolences and prayers to his family.
Law enforcement is a tough way to make a living...

Weekend was not as bad as predicted. Did manage to get to most of the big projects that were on the honey do list. Trees cut off fence, fence temp fixed, need to run different wire. You can only splice so many times and then it looks like poo.

The main project and the one that scored the most points was, wait for it...drum roll please.

FLOWER BED
After "we" decided where it should go, "I" had to lay out the lumber so "we" could visualize how it would look.

After a few hours it came together pretty good, thanks to the supervision.
Even made the lattice out of some 1x6x3/4 ceder I had left over from something else.

Trad found a weather rock that was big enough it wont get buried on the first snow fall.

Got put on the afternoon shift. Still 10's but get off at 0300.
This could be a long 2 or 3 weeks.

I have to say that most of the time I was blessed as back-up was usually never more than 5 minutes away. That can still be an eternity under the right circumstances. I always tried to get the new guys to understand that it doesn't make you brave to jump on someone by yourself when the smart, and usually less painful alternative was to wait a couple minutes and use numbers to your advantage. I have faced the "I've got the guy that just murdered someone scenario" and it's not fun. Especially since he was the only one who knew it. After a high speed chase, a foot chase that included a romp through the woods and the realization that I was by myself, all you have to go on is mad. He's scared, has adrenaline and the full knowledge of what he's done, it isn't worth jumping on him because he has nothing to lose. Back-up did arrive in short order and then we got him cuffed and secured.
