We've got gas as primary, a wood burning insert with a worthless blower down and a vintage wood unit we've never used on the central level. I want to replace it with a pellet stove.

Well folks, it is a cool and wet day in the shadow of the Rockies. DW and I had eggs Benedict for breakfast - I love Hollandaise sauce. Once that all settles, I have a trailer to winterize and a couple of shelves to install in the basement. It is a holiday up here (Thanksgiving Day) so no drive to the city, office work or suit and tie for me today
Pellet stoves rock, unfortunately you are not alloved to build your own anymore around here, good thing I did mine before they changed the rules..

rules rules rules....what´s not to love

Got my pellet stove running here in the office this morning had a slight mishap when I first fired it up smoke didn't want to go up the chimney
I shut it down and opened the windows to get the smoke out then fired it back up and it worked just fine...
No clue what that was about it worked fine yesterday as well, no obstructions of any kind in the flue.....must have been some kind of weird temperature inversion thing that caused it to do what it did. Ran it all last year with no issues and clean it EVERY week during use.
I think Murphy just wanted to toss me a Monday morning hiccup

Probably a shrew stuck in there.
Hey, More Me, make me me some lunch.
me too, I'll take a rib-eye, baked potato and some beans.,..
Must be a Monday, went out this morning, and found the truck sitting on a flat tire
Off work, so sitting around watching all those movies I've recorded on the DVR and never watch..

Afternoon all, that was a waste of a day off, I did productive stuff. 4 lbs of onions are cooking down for French Onion Soup, I got my sister's trailer winterized, all of the pumps, lines and tanks for irrigation are drained, heck I even got the broken and bright blue water pressure tank out of the front yard. The DW really hates it when I store broken appliances and equipment in the front yard. Apparently we are not allowed to look like an episode oh Hoarders.
Shorts, you best get one of the other guys to make you lunch today. My midday meal was a face and mouthful of RV antifreeze that I ingested after forgetting that the contents of the hot water tank in the trailer would still be under pressure. That stuff may not be toxic, but it still tastes gross!!
It is damp, rainy, cold and windy here today. It feels like winter could get here any day.

Watchman Chris - there is never a good time for a flat tire but Monday morning is extra cruel.
Top - I haven't used a wood stove in 20 years, so you are on your own there..
Chaikwa - you HAVE been very delinquent in your duties as part of the family lately. So, get back to you normal level of dysfunction please.

Sometimes I have to open the door to get my kitchen wood cook stove going. Cold chimneys don't start drafting without a little help sometimes.
Brings back memories. I had a friend that never burned wood in his life. He lived in a condo, but insisted he needed a wood stove to survive Y2K. Somehow he got permission to run a chimney through his neighbor's closet and got one put in. Stacked in a supply of nice dry firewood, sat back and felt well prepared.
On Jan 1, 2000 he decided he needed to light the stove. It was cold outside, and the condo was pretty tight. Coupla things he didn't know.
1. New stoves are made of new iron which has an oily substance or preserevative on it, which smokes at first burn.
2. The damper was wide open and he had no idea where it was or how to use it.
Long story short, it involved the fire department to clear the smoke out.
