Shorts, at what outside temp do you spark up a fire? It has been going down to freezing or lower at night for 2 weeks. We only caved and turned on the furnace yesterday. We still feel stupid for turning on the furnace though, since we sleep with the bedroom window open a bit and the ceiling fan on until it gets a bunch colder. I think it is all about what you are used to though. I am pretty good at working outside until we get to about -25F. I don't do much work outside in the summer here once the temp gets above 75F. I was in Houston the first week in August once. It was 120F with 4 billion percent humidity and I made the mistake of walking 6 blocks from the hotel to our office in a suit. THAT was not a pretty sight. 4 yrs later the folks in our Houston office are still laughing about it.

It's only in the low 50s here. I have the fire on to heat the room here instead of turning on the heat from the central unit. If the fire isn't on the temp drops. Not certain how low. I started the fire at 70*. I don't remember what we kept the heat temp at last winter so I'm winging it until we're in a regular cold weather routine.
During the summer I keep the thermostat for the AC at 78*. We were in 100* summers. I do a lot of work outside in the heat so I'm fairly tolerant of that.
When we lived in Japan the first year hurt to get acclimated. But I could tell just how much I had adapted over the three years when I'd come back to TX to visit and my family was freezing and I was comfortable
Where we lived we average 10-12' snow per year. Snow was on the ground from Nov-April. I did my time in the snow. Don't care for it.

Evening folks...Fall is in glorious foliage here and many trees are already dropping their leaves....
I always dread the season as I have to change the camo on my Ghillie suit to match the fall season BUT at the same time it becomes a lot more comfortable to wear on those chilly evenings
Had some snow in the upper elevations last night, time for me to be sure the place is fully winterized so nothing important freezes up like the condensation line on the Still or sumpin....

Anywho, evening folks, looks like I better play catch up.
Shorts - I forgot about A/C. We don't have any A/C. This year was the hottest summer in southern Alberta since 1970 and really there were only 3 or 4 nights we wished we had A/C. Because of our elevation (3,500 ft) it cools off really nicely at night on even the hottest days. Good furnaces., gas fireplaces and good cold weather gear are mandatory. Never leave home in the winter without a warm coat, toque, mitts and boots in the car or truck. You dont have to wear them if you don't want but a breakdown a few miles from nowhere gets really serious, really quickly if you don't have cold weather gear. Lets be honest though, Bark, Cougar and Officer Marc have it way rougher than I do.
BTW - the night time cooling is assisted by the fact that we are thousands of miles from any body of water worth mentioning. No water / lake effect to our weather.

Thanks for the heads up Tall......I was sure worried that I had inadvertantly slipped and smacked my head and lost all track of time. I guess I will resume normal living now.
Morning folks. I guess I'll go ahead and put some coffee on. A little cool here in central Texas this morning....43*.....cold enough for me!! However, it is a nice change and I'm kinda hoping that we actually have a winter this year as we haven't really had one in several years down here.
Gonna go enjoy my morning before I head off to class. I really should grab a nap since I just got off work but it's just too purty outside to den up.
Laters.

Ohhhh lol
Man I'm slow today. It's the cold weather. DH always said I was like a diesel.
We've been thinking about a fireplace insert with blower. But the price makes us not think about it anymore.
So what kind of heat are you using now?
