Evening to the gang. Hope your day was productive and you had some fun mixed in. Been all over this area - - some gorgeous scenery and drives and the fishing spots drive you craze. Some better luck with the fishing this morning - - 2 reds. Slowly picking up but I don't think in time to help us out. We head out of here on Monday to start heading south. Plan on several stops on the way down to the lower 48 so will probably be on the road a couple weeks before hitting Washington.
Now you understand why I love Florida. We can do that almost 365 days a year right in our lanai. And, it there is a nip in the air, we can turn on the heat in the Jacuzzi and warm up. Love it. I am missing it but having too much fun to hurry home. Then, while Bark is freezing his pattutty off, I will be in the pool or having supper on the beach.
Man you guys have been having a go of it. OUCH. Stay safe.
Blonde is calling for supper - - gotta run.
Bob
DW and I will be back in the pool to cool off again this afternoon. Talk about one of the best purchases we have ever made. We got it at Wal-Mart for about $300. It is 15 feet across and about 3 feet deep. You can't really swim in it but it is really good for cooling off. The inflatable floating chairs we got even have drink holders in them. What a fun way to finish up each evening while on vacation. Play safe all y'all.

Evening,,
Still kinda tough. I forget, what other critters do you guys have.
We need to get a new hot tub. Not very many things better than relaxing in one while its snowing and blowing.
Only a bolt!!!! Its under the car.
My body was not designed to crawl under vehicles with 7" of clearance.
Why couldn't they put the drain plug on the top of the car.
I totally understand. My wife has a few new outfits I have been dying to try on also.

No. NO! NO!!! I didn't need that kinda image first thing in the morning! Or ANYTIME as far as that goes! That's gonna be stuck in my mind for the rest of the day, if not longer! CURSES TO YOU!
Just for that; BADGER, BADGER, BADGER!
Okay, enough of that drivel.
It is Saturday, August 2nd.
1776 - Members of the Continental Congress began adding their signatures to the Declaration of Independence.
1791 - Samuel Briggs and his son Samuel Briggs, Jr. received a joint patent for their nail-making machine. They were the first father-son pair to receive a patent.
1858 - In Boston and New York City the first mailboxes were installed along streets.
1861 - The United States Congress passed the first income tax. The revenues were intended for the war effort against the South. The tax was never enacted. SO WHY ARE WE STILL PAYING INCOME TAX?
1887 - Rowell Hodge patented barbed wire.
1892 - Charles A. Wheeler patented the first escalator.
1926 - John Barrymore and Mary Astor starred in the first showing of the Vitaphone System. The system was the combining of picture and sound for movies. The movie was Badger, Badger, Badger!
1939 - Albert Einstein signed a letter to President Roosevelt urging the U.S. to have an atomic weapons research program.
1943 - The U.S. Navy patrol torpedo boat, PT-109, sank after being attacked by a Japanese destroyer. The boat was under the command of Lt. John F. Kennedy.
1964 - The Pentagon reported the first of two North Vietnamese attacks on U.S. destroyers in the Gulf of Tonkin.
1983 - U.S. House of Representatives approved a law that designated the third Monday of January would be a federal holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The law was signed by President Reagon on November 2.
1990 - Iraq invaded the oil-rich country of Kuwait. Iraq claimed that Kuwait had driven down oil prices by exceeding production quotas set by OPEC.
1995 - China ordered the expulsion of two U.S. Air Force officers. The two were said to have been caught spying on military sights.
Today's thought:
One can never pay in gratitude; one should pay "in kind" somewhere else in life.
Coffee's on. Ph00 t00 for those so inclined... and brave.

Yesterday was the 100th anniversary of the start of WW1.
I am proud of what the Canadians did as well as all soldiers.
Especially proud of my really Elder Twin and his efforts back then and now.

Happy Saturday all y'all, it is another muggy day in the foothills. Unfortunately that means the chance of more thunderstorms. The current forecast shows this weather pattern holding for at least the next 3 days - hot and humid all day with thunderstorms in the evenings and afternoons. When we are done with the storms here in Alberta we send them east to mess up Scotty's life - sorry buddy.
Yesterday afternoon was all about picking raspberries (13 pints in 90 minutes) at the neighbors' place. The only sand in the ointment was when I nearly stepped on a paper wasps' next that was on the ground amongst the canes. I had my big gumboots on and had been dealing with buzzing honey bees for about 15 minutes (they are so high on nectar that they can't be bothered with me) when I heard a much more insistent sounding buzzing. I looked down and saw the nest right beside my boot. Man, I got out of that part of the berry patch really quickly!! Luckily, no stings, they gave me just enough warning.
Today will be about picking beans in the garden then tipping and tailing them. If all goes according to plan, we will blanche them first thing tomorrow morning.
Have a good day everyone and send thoughts our way to keep your western Canadian family members (Scotty and me) safe from the storms over the next 3 days.

Afternoon Rick, cougar, Bob and all,
Kinda figured you wouldn't like hot tubs. Too much like taking a bath..
Our blueberries around here aren't doing very well. Love wild berries they are so much better than farmed.
Recently watched a show on the second battle of the Somme. Lot of casualties.
Canadians won their part and lost only 5600 men.
I just can't imagine fighting battles where you can use the word "only" when talking about thousands of deaths.
Incredibly brave people.
Lary was still a private at the time.

Happy Saturday evening all y'all, you know you live in the country when the neighborhood kids knock on your door to ask if you would mind if they went down in the trees on your land to shoot pigeons. They got almost 20 squab in 2 hours. I bet I know what they are having for dinner.

I didn't think anybody but our family ate squab. We used to raise them also.
People in the city think of them as flying rats and I sure wouldn't eat one that was bagged in the city but the wild country ones are great.

Bark, we have a lot of pigeons here for the country. A number of years ago there was a farmer a few miles away who raised a huge farm of pigeons. I think they are racing pigeons. When he ran out of money and lost his farm he just opened the cages, walked off the land and moved in with family in the city. The pigeons survived and then some!! My farming mentor who lives about 2 miles away is willing to provide shotgun ammunition AND pay the local kids to come and shoot them. They keep getting into his granaries and making a huge mess of things. If you are going to eat sqaub then I image the ones fed on good wheat and barley would taste pretty good

That's the same plaque in the middle of the display.
Finally got tired of the mouse that came out the night Huck died. Didn't take him 5 minutes to find the trap. They like cream cheese.
