it's a process. easier to buy the paste. and cleaner.
if you actually want the husks to (pound, grate, ect) I can help ya out.
but it is something that time, moisture affects as there is a lot of bacteria associated with black walnuts. (Indians have used them as poison, acid wash, and tattoo removal)

just shoot me a PM if still interested...
My grandpa use to rake them over to the driveway and drive on them til the husks were broken off and let them dry out a bit before he collected them.

My first house was out that way. Loved it too. Of course it was more like just a cabin in the woods. 16x24 and heated with a wood stove. But it was home.

28* this AM. May have to trade the vest for a jacket soon....

28 degrees. ok. is the sun going to shine?

but throw in wind and moisture and it gets unpleasant-quick.

you were born there; nothing left to prove-
put the jacket on...

yup, or wait until the outer skin sheds.
process:
let them drop!
wait a week, then scoop, hot water power rinse (twice)
dry in sun 2-3 days or commercial drier (like jerky)
store in dry place to cure nutmeats about a month
crack and eat!

to get the dye, press or roll em over with a car tire (use plastic gloves too) scoop, husk and toss wet walnuts into the burr tube. like a grinder but it is one inch diameter so it only takes the outer shell. perfectly round nuts get zinged out while the dye paste drops down for collection.
yup, it is as uncomfortable and messy as it sounds.

so line up for your boxes of black walnuts to the right...

Hi U

Did you finish your drawers?

BTW, left you a message on the toy thread.

Cougar.

I never did that, but wanna bet it was a cross wind?
But I have parked a MU2 on Rt. 80. MU2's are hard to fly. They would never fly up there.

Planes are a life blood up there. You have allot of old air machines up there. It's amazing how the bush pilots prefer the 40's and 50's stuff over something new. Or are the new planes junk?

My hardware came in and today I got four drawers drilled and mounted. Got another four to go. Then I'll tear them all down for prep and paint. Then I'll put them all together again

I still don't know what I'm doing for handles
