Looks like the northeast *MIGHT* get some bad weather this weekend. I think it will be interesting to see if my emergency plans are, #1, put into action and , #2, actually work as designed! An 18 town emergency action plan that's never been put to use could be interesting and fun to watch!
Not even for a price. I've put 200+ miles on the truck today, burnt $50 in diesel and made who knows how many phone calls looking for dirt. I found have of the quantity required for free, just 3 miles away. The super hasn't called me back. I found a pit where I can get some soft shale, it'll work but I can't get it until Monday. I found a clay pit, $50 a load plus trucking, 25 miles away and will open on Saturday if I let him know I need the dirt. I found the perfect soil, a sandy clay, 20 miles away, owner hasn't called me back. The first show is suppose to start in 45 minutes........NOT!!! I tried to call the promoter to let him know what I found, no answer, no voice mail. I went by his trailer at the fair, he's not there. Checked the fairgrounds, can't find him there either. I've run my backside all day for nothing, oh well, not the first time.

On an interesting side note, I did talk to the horse people. Their contract requires an oval shaped, 90x120, 14" riding area. The promoter wanted a 40x80, no where big enough according to the horse folks.

As far as the storm, better go buy your fuel now. The east coast has about 7% of our refining capacity located there. A storm like this is all they need to jack the fuel prices again.

That turned out great!! You need to build a few more, find a construction site and bury them at night to be discovered the next day. Maybe pitch a few arrow heads and rib bones from a bear in with it.

Sounds like you have gone above and beyond and its time to get some cash up front from the guy.

What's a hurrican run?

I don't mind bad weather either. If I have to go out in it to tie something down, oh well. I've gotten my jeans washed a few times. . . .

I think we're batten down pretty good. . . Just worrying about Polaraco and my neighbors tree.

Our hurricane run consisted of packing up for a road trip (clothes and a cooler) and hauling butt out of town to San Antonio and setting up in a hotel somewhere. Just ride out the storm. Our house in CC We were far enough (19mls) that winds weren't the problem but we were in the flood area which is what usually caught us. Really we used it as an excuse to road trip out of town for a couple days, skip work or school, shop and goof around and watch the weather channel until we got back to the house to see how everything came out.

We rode out a couple storms too, nothing serious. Minor power glitches and high water but otherwise ok.

Ahhh

Nah Around here they have a Hurricane Shopping. Mine consisted of replacing my old sump pump because it was siezed and a box of roofing nails.

The rest was buttoning up my car tent and picking up all the parts I had in the yard for it.

Morning all.

Today is Saturday, August 27th.

On this day in 1859 - The first oil well was successfully drilled in the U.S. by Colonel Edwin L. Drake near Titusville, PA.

1921 - The owner of Acme Packing Company bought a pro football team for Green Bay, WI. J.E. Clair paid tribute to those who worked in his plant by naming the team the Green Bay Packers. (NFL)

1939 - **** Germany demanded the Polish corridor and Danzig.

1945 - American troops landed in Japan after the surrender of the Japanese government at the end of World War II.

1972 - North Vietnam's major port at Haiphong saw the first bombings from U.S. warplanes.

1981 - Work began on recovering a safe from the Andrea Doria. The Andrea Doria was a luxury liner that had sank in 1956 in the waters off of Massachusetts.

1984 - U.S. President Ronald Reagan announced that the first citizen to go into space would be a teacher. The teacher that was eventually chosen was Christa McAuliffe. She died in the Challenger disaster on January 28, 1986.

1989 - The first U.S. commercial satellite rocket was launched. A British communications satellite was onboard.

1992 - Federal troops were ordered to Florida for emergency relief due to Hurricane Andrew.

2001 - The U.S. military announced that an Air Force RQ-1B "Predator" aircraft was lost over Iraq. It was reported that the unmanned aircraft "may have crashed or been shot down."

2001 - Work began on the future site of a World War II memorial on the U.S. capital's historic national Mall. The site is between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Since a running back runs forward, why is he called a running back?

The coffee this morning is a lovely blend of aromatic urinal cakes and drano with a slight hint of arabica bean. Enjoy.

After he runs you over, he's now running on your back. Hence running back

Jeez, I have that. I thought everyone did. I see the boil on your shoulder is still festering. Oh, wait... that's just your head. Sorry.
