I am looking for a HD winch for my car trailer, but I want something strong. Namely 12k lbs plus. I was looking at the MM, and dont mind running a ****** block if needed. But I have also seen the brute strenth of a hyd winch.

Occasionally I run into cars with all flat tire, or even head on wrecks dragging them by the oil pan(I do not do any collision recovery though)

My question is, for straight on pulling, and use of a ****** block, will a MM 12K hold up to use 3-4 times a week, sometimes pulling pickups on my trailer?

-or-

How hard would it be, and cost wise to mount a remote 12v hydro pump on the trailer, compared to running lines to the rear bumper from my power steering pump?

Thanks

They sell a kit from milemarker that will run hoses from your pump to the rear of your truck. On the end of the hoses they have quick disconnects. So you need to just get some hoses that would be the right length from the disconnect to your winch. Prob around 5 ft. These things will run 7 days a week. Plus there duty cycle is pretty much 100%. If you put a 12k on it, you probably wont need a ****** block, unless you are pulling a dozer on it or something VERY heavy. I have only needed to use the ****** block once, and that was when I was stuck in a ditch with my trailer hooked up. Almost pulled that big ole tree out on the other side of the road. There was about 5 ft of snow that was hard packed. I broke through and the axles were floating. That was with a 10.5k. They will pull alot.

Taildragger you are making more sense all the time!

I could have thought of that .....no......... really!

Xcellent suggestion!!!

Now, what about quick disconnect hydraulic lines?

Ridof my kid is getting the 8274 and bumper for his K-5. Not quite large enough for my toy!
