Rims

Hey looking for some suggestions on rims. I want some good rims for off roading not something that belongs on a road queen. What size and type of rim would you recommend? Thanks in advance

"Forged" not cast 18" with as much rubber as you can fit around them!

18 inch is for pavement queens
Actually, 3rd gens need them, hard to find aftermarket 17's that will fit the calipers,
but for we 2nd genners, 16 inch is plenty, stick with 16-inch.

8-10 inch wide, depending on how wide a tire you want to go with.

Stay away from cast aluminum, it can't handle our front end weight, forged or steel.

20" are for mall runners Phox!

I want to have enough clearance for my rotors but still have the ability to use the sidewall for traction on rocks. 18's are the standard now days! Try to find a good set of 17's lately??

18's for 3rd gens which came stock with 17's.

2nd gens however don't need that much wheel, 16's are plenty, and you have plenty of tire choices.

Choices decrease exponentially the bigger rim you go.

Yep you got that right! 35" tires and a 4" lift will get you into more places than I can count. With any luck they may get you home also!

So then I should stay away from the 17's? I have a 16.5 right now, but I am finding that some tires are not made for that rim. Anyone have a name brand rim they like or just anything? Thanks everyone

My opinion is 16's would be best as tires are cheaper for 16" rims. Wrap them with as much rubber as you can fit!

18's are the only way to go on a 2nd gen...

20's are overkill and look stupid!

16.5....never mind

17" wheels are what the vast majority of offroad racing trucks use. That's what I would (and did) go with. KMC's XD Series offers several models with the proper backspacing to fit our trucks. Their 8-lug wheels also sport a 3200-lb load rating.
