Jeep stuck in the mud

Yesterday a co-worker came to me and asked me to pull his Jeep liberty out of some mud. He was burried so deep that none of the 4 tires were even touching the ground any more. We tried to pull it out with just some tow straps but I broke one so we doubled them up and utilized 3 of them for more strength but all I did was spin. It sucks when you spin all 4 tires at one time. So I was looking for something other then a winch (too much money) to pull a stuck truck out of the mud. Please let me know what you all use. Thank you in advance for the help.

Well

its not a winch, and they are four 2 x 4's i have in the bed, as well as a shovel.. Stucks are usually accidental, i understand that, but I try not to put myself in that situation.... it sucks... Ive only had to use my boards once in sand, and had to be pulled out once...

Try a super heavy duty come along and a pull pal.....

Not fun either way

Tx

just get a 4 inch wide nylon tow strap from tractor supply and hook it up. let it get about 4-6 feet of slack and get a little forward momentum. it will come right out.

It sounds like a farm tractor is in order. You could try "snapping" him out by getting some slack in the tow strap and nailing the throttle, but it could have negative effects.

If your going to use the snap method put a jacket or blanket on the line it will keep it fromm going thru the window if it breaks. might get a bumper jack and raise the front and push it over to get part of the frame off the ground cuz your plowing with it if the tires arent touching

If you can't get traction to pull it out, you'll need a winch as well as an anchor point.

Couple calls for a tow truck will more than pay for the winch.

Sounds like it is really stuck good... Get a high lift jack and some boards.. Jack up the Jeep and put the boards under the tires to get the frame out of the mud.. Hook up the tow strap and drive it out with some pressure from the strap...

Alot of work but it got my froends full size chevy out of the muck.. His was a lifted truck with 36" tires buried to the doors...

And I bet he doesn't have a decent recovery point.

Sounds like a lot of manual effort or a hefty winch is in order. I typically prefer the later.

I use a come-along and boards when we need to pull something out of the mud, and tugging doesnt work...it takes grunt work, but it gets the job done.

Its out

Thank you all for the Replys they were great.

NC MOG you were right he did not have any attachment points so we had to use his axle.

In the end he called a tow truck and they winched him out. I have seen some 4ton come-alongs for about $35 and was wondering if they would be worth while? I live in UpState NY so this will probably not be the last vehicle that I am asked to pull out before this coming winter is over.

Again thank you for the sugestions!!!

Put a winch on your truck, and make some money to pay for it! I have never had a winch on any of my trucks, but after having one on the four wheeler, I am considering one for the Ram.

Dig out around the liberty and put some real meats on the Ram. Unless it is soup you should be able to drag it sitting on the body.

If they don't have good tow points, I won't touch them... It's way to dangerous and you can do alot of damage to the stuck one.
