Talking Show & Tell

As some of you may know, I've been goofing around under the hood of my old W250.

I've just recently completed installing a Hamilton 181/210 cam and a "Build to spec" IC from Joe Hellman (it's purdy ).

Anyhoot, setting a new baseline for tuning this past Thursday, I made a 8.36 (a new best) pass at the Dunn-Benson Dragway (1/8th).

I wanted to see what's the deal in the 1/4th though. So doing a Google on dragstrips in NC came up with Coastal Plains Dragway. While I've never been, I have heard good things from you folks regarding diesel events there. http://www.coastalplainsraceway.com/dragway/

It's shy of a hundred miles from my house and I've always worried about scattering my mess a looooong way from home.

My Son Adam says "So let's go!". . . . . . . .

The old heap ran a series of new bests!
- Best 1/8th ET and speed.
- Best 1/4th ET and speed.
- First time over 100mph.

I didn't know it but they run a "Street Legal Drag Race Quick 8" competition earlier in the evening. Apparently I made it to the line before the window closed (I don't know what time it was. It was dark when I got there).

My first pass mentioned above was that the competition noted. Whatever. So I come back to the rear of the line after cooling a bit and this impressive looking bald-headed guy in an orange "Staff" T-shirt comes up and says "Let's see (looking at some notes), #95, green Dodge pick-up. Yup, so you want to good news or the bad news first?"

Uh oh. I say Good?

He says, In tonight's Quick-8 competition, you placed #4. When you finish the next pass, stop there where you get your ET slip to pick up your trophy and get you photo taken.

Say what?

I'm told if I come back October 30th, I'll line up with all the other winners for a shoot-out. Winner takes home $500. I don't really expect to make it, much less win. Regardless, I was tickled pink!

The >200 mile trip in Labor Day holiday Friday night traffic with three WOT 1/4 mile passes burn't a shade over a half tank.

It was a good night.

WOW! That's a bad green machine. Shoot McMopar a pic of the underhood. I tried to explain but I can't do it justice. Congrats again David. I was thinking the 13.55 at the rock was hot. WOW again.

Thanks for the kind words folks.

I am hoping to make the Piedmont event but at work, one of my co-workers (from Morocco) is taking two months off work, go to Morocco, obtain a wife, and come back . . . . . .

What!?

The boss is going for it . . . .

What!?

So all of the sudden, the three remaining service techs (myself included) now have to go from being On-Call every fourth week, to every three weeks.

What!?

Oh. The boss forgot about: So what about the rest of us wanting to take vacation before winter?

What!?

Anyhoot, I'm still planning on going hopefully.

I know.

I run the stock/OEM fuel pick-up assembly that I've modified such that it runs AN6 (fit and capacity).
However, I'm past the point of fuel spilling over the top of the reservoir with a hard launch. ATM, with less than a half tank, it sucks air.

I've got to pull it out and put a lid on it.

Just got back from Dunn-Benson and bested my Friday 1/8 mile run .. .

RT = .1116
60ft = 1.7969
330ft = 5.2659
1/8ET = 8.2911
1/8MPH = 80.75

Congrats, getting down there in that first gen. I hope to make it out for a pass in the Street Legal Quick 8 - my assumption last time that DOTs would be okay was wrong and I didn't feel like switching back to my street tires when i found out.
