Well, shoot! I broke something in the transmission about ten feet after the starting line tonight. No forward or reverse though the park works. Something between the input and output shaft.
Y'all drive safe and tell everyone I said "Hey!"

Dang Dave,......sorry to hear about your truck buddy!! I am going to miss not seeing that 1st Gen "rocket" of yours this year.

Broken Intermediate Shaft
While I would have loved to have been there with you good folks, it would have been terrible had this occurred there
I'm cyphering how to glue it back together and hoping to make the next event soon.

Sorry to see that David! I think I have a stock one if you want to borrow it until you can get a billet. The only thing I don't know is will a 47RE fit in your 1st Gen Tranny??

- The input shaft on my mess is solid (non lock-up converter) and inherently stronger than you guys hollow shaft (for the hydraulic circuits of your lock-up converter). With that, I'm on the fence regarding a billet input. Realistically, I don't see my mess making more than 500HP. But then, that might not matter.
- They don't make a billet intermediate shaft for the A518 trans I run (essentially a 727 with an overdrive nailed to it). But I can use a 47RH billet shaft with adding a few more hard parts to retrofit mine. No big deal there.
- There is a billet output shaft available.
I was at if not over 20psig boost when the lights went green. The DATA-logger suggests it was at 45psig (out of 55psig max) when the shaft popped.
How much boost do you guys feel comfortable with coming off the line running billet shafts?

Thanks for the offer John. I'm struggling with the thought of one, two, or three billet shafts (input/intermediate/output). $$WOW$$

What about the overdrive's output shaft?

David:
The offer on the shaft is there if you need it buddy!
David, on my 96' I try not to go over 20lbs of boost coming off the lights, but I have left at 30 several times! I am pretty sure that Brian, Tim, Jess and a few others do the same thing on their trucks. Maybe they will chime in here.
Anyway,.....sorry about the shaft breaking.

Building my A518 like I'm thinking, based on the numbers you guys talk about, I should be OK.
Thanks folks.
