I'll be doing the clutch tomorrow(Sat). Most of it is just time consuming and I can do it myself. Might like to have your # and give you a call when I get to the hard part like lining the clutch up and lining up the tranny at the end. Then maybe the T-case. No biggie if your busy. But it wouldn't hurt to have a hand at that time.

It's 10:30am or so and I'm just now going out to get started. Gonna ice down some waters and a few sodas to have out there. Then let the wrench swingin begin.

Tad dropped by and really helped me out also. You should see his truck on 37's. It looks killer.

We got the tranny out, but I need to mod the bellhousing for clearance. I also discovered that on this new tranny, I never took the stupid washer out from behind the pivot ball. Could be part of my problem.

 

Don't tell the wife that, she might be mad that you caused the problem to get another new toy

 

Just started to put the new clutch in and realized the crank bolts were TOO long on this flywheel and were flattening out against the crank. Their about 1/4" too long. I remember now that when we did the clutch about 3+ years ago, the original bolts were about 1/4" too short. I guess I can cut these down, but I sure wish I knew what I did with the original bolts. I hate cutting down bolts.

 

Go by fastenal and get the size you need. Those are probably grade8 or should be and would be a real pain to cutdown. If you need help with it give me a call 239-6061

Great idea!! I'll check them out first thing in the morning. Man, I wish it would stop raining. At least its rather dry under my truck.

 

I think a bad-duvall just switched his G56 over to a 5600 or swapped it out for something else. im not bashing just thinking if you got the tranny out maybe put a stronger one in. just a thought I know money doesnt grow on trees. tell john P. you need a loan haha!

 

Well, I went out to Fastenal for some shorter bolts this morning in the rain. As my luck would prevail, they don't stock hardened metrics. So I went and got some fresh blades for the sawsall and knocked em all down a 1/4". Got all the bits and pieces under the truck and out of the rain ready to install. Locktited the crank bolts and clamped the flywheel down. Noticed while I was doing this that my little black/white friend, work buddy, and frequent PITA furball - 'Oreo The Cat' was playing with the small tube of locktite. Went to put the pressure plate on and NO LOCKTITE. She ran off with it or something. I can't find it anywhere and of course she acts like she never saw it. I need grease anyway so I'm off to the auto parts store and then over to get my girl out of daycare. With any luck, I might be back under there to get a little more done today and finish it off tomorrow or Sunday. I love that little cat. She's entertaining as heck, but I could just about skin her right now.

 

That's why I prefer dogs! They don't run off with stuff, they just chew it up right in front of you.

 

Well, I got the tranny sort of in after many delays. Got a couple of bolts in it and a crossmember under it. Will start bolting it all back up tomorrow morning. Whew, I'm tired. Time for a beer.


Can't wait to get this thing going so I can put some miles on the new free-spin hubs.

 

Took a little drive in the rain. Still got a little spongyness in the hydraulics so I gonna reinstall the old hydraulic and see if I'm just imagining things. Doesn't rattle as much in the lower RPMs as the old clutch. Liking that.
