This event is something very new for our NC18 group, normally we just go to the track and tear it up with the gassers.

I thought it might be fun to try to make this more of a racing style event to build on in the future. I'm sorry if some feel like they've been left out, that was never the intention of anyone that has worked on getting this event together. Our goal all along has been to create a fun event for everyone to enjoy. Whether you be a hard core racer or a novice just getting into diesel performance.

Maybe next year we'll be able to get the track for the whole day so we can have a wider array of classes. That's an idea for consideration anyway.

I hope everyone will try to come out and participate. You never know what you might learn or who you might meet.

If anyone needs any questions answered about this event I'll be more than happy to help, just send me a PM.

Thanks.

I agree with Mike, John and Cris. Since 2003 it has been a "test and tune" type of event with NO PRIZES OR TROPHIES OR MONEY. A few of us have really worked hard on setting up a "Race Style" event this year and retaining some MAJOR SPONSORSHIP. Keep in mind, all of the sponsors that we keep speaking of, are listening and will be watching for results. If all goes well with this "New Style" event, it can only get better from here! I am confident that we have one of the best chapters in the DTR! The "core nuculeus" has stuck together for a long time, and continues to grow every year.
Remember, diesel drag racing is still a fairly new sport that is still on the grow. So in order to grow your sport, you must support your sport.

Thanks,

Cris,

This issue has been explained ad nauseam.

If we can talk the track into running the event until 3 a.m. I'll be glad to run another class.

To expand.... The 12.0 is and index of how quick you can run, it doesn't preclude anyone from running in this class. You know as well as I do that my truck on a good might run a 12.6, but that doesn't prevent me from putting my truck out there on the track in the QD class with NADM. Weird things happen in drag racing... Case in point, I placed 2nd in Rockingham out of all the trucks in QD, I was the slowest qualifier....

I can up the index in this class if there is a strong enough interest from the racers. It's not going to be 13 second as that would not be fair to those you can normally run the index, plus who wants to watch people fender racing all night?

Until someone can present a viable plan, this issue is done for me.

P.S.

This event is suppose to be about having a good time with your fellow DTR members not what someone can win.

To suggest that this event is slanted towards only people with a lot of money tied up in their trucks is misguided in my view.... The implication here is bad. I think I deserve better treatment than that.

Cris,

I mentioned the same thing in post #4.

Mike,

I don't think anyone is implicating anyone of anything, but I think it's just being pointed out that one of the largest possible demographics of trucks is being left out. At any diesel drag event I have ever been at the true, 100% street trucks (ET bracket) outnumbered the QD and Pro Street trucks combined. Looking at the roster list for this event shows quite a few QD trucks (which is awesome!), but there is a lot of potential trucks (basically anyone who isn't a Marine slower than a 13.0) who may be left out also. For a small, local event I personally think the 6.5 and 12.0 indexes are too fast. Here's what I suggest (since you asked):

Pro Street:

No Index, heads up in the 1/8th mile. If an index is desired then set it up at 7.0 or 7.25... something most trucks can get close to without letting someone peddle the whole way. Any number of trucks, simple elimination bracket.

Winner & 2nd place prizes

QD:

12.5 index, 1/4 mile. Bumping this up to 12.5 will give some split between the Pro trucks (low 11 or 10 sec capable) and this class. Any # of trucks, simple elimination bracket.

Winner & 2nd place prizes

ET:

1/4 mile bracket racing Limited to first 14 trucks ONLY! The two trucks with the best R/Ts in the qualifying round (1 round only) get a first round bye. The first round would then compete 12 trucks (6 winners + 2 byes), and then a simple round of 8 (4 winners, 2 winners, 1 winner). That allows for 5 rounds total with, to me, is doable in our time frame. NO buybacks! The fastest stick AND the Marine with the time that is the farthest ahead of MadHat win their respective prizes.

Winner, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes.

Extra prizes (something minor):

Quickest R/T for the event
Marine fastest over Madhat (see above)
Quickest stick (see above)

That's my input to try to include a little something for everyone. That idea (a little something for everyone) has been a revolving theme for these events in the past. Of course everyone is there to have a good time, and we will, but friendly competition always adds to the good time.

Before we go rearranging classes and reworking trophies.

Who would like to step up and manage the E.T. bracket class? I'll have my hands full and would need someone to record number from the E.T class for payouts.

Mike and John,

I know you two are trying to get this down and make everyone happy. However, you can only please most of the people some of the time. I know you guys will figure it out. I hope I can get back from Tampa in time to watch some of the races. Looks like I am not coming in till 7:25pm the night of the races. If I am there in time I will monitor the times for the E.T. class. I think we need a more defined list of how many racers are going to compete in each class. if there are only going to be 3 E.T. racers...then why?

So make it look like this:

G.I.Joe E.T. / QD / HAT
I.G.Joe Unl / E.T.

And so on...and most of all....keep it civil...we have a real good thing going in this chapter. Keep it that way.
