Wahington D.C. metro area question
Wahington D.C. metro area question
I'm moving to that area for sure in about a month. Will I need to plug my truck in over night in that area in the winter? I have never been there before so any help is appreciated.
Its not absolutely necessary. It gets cold here, but not frigid.
You'll love the fact that you have a srw reg cab. It seems you are sol trying to drive in DC if you have anything larger or taller than a clown car. You'll be hard pressed to find a parking garage taller than 6'7". The traffic flow here makes Huntsville traffic seem organized.

I only plug in once the temps drop below 30* overnight.
I plug mine with a timer set to come on 3 hours before I leave.
It's not necessary, but it does help reduce warm up times.
As for the size of the truck in DC traffic, .....My daily driver is my quad-cab dually.
You will quickly learn that adjusting your drive time (by sometimes as little as 15 minutes)
will affect your commute time by as much as +/- 40 minutes.
I leave at 0600 and I am sitting at my desk in SW DC by 0630.
That same trip at 0700.....will take an hour or more.

Use to live in NoVA, had a Ford 7.3, did the same as Shovelhead, plugged in the truck once it got down to freezing with a timer that came on for about 2-3 hours before I was to leave. Another benefit other than faster warmup is that the added heat helped defrost the windshield quicker. Nothing like having to climb up to scrape the frost off.
I set mine to come on 5 hours before I leave and I leave the heater in the defrost position. This keeps my windshield virtually clear while all the other vehicles on my street are covered in frost. Having it come on that early definitely makes it warm up quicker. I don't care much anymore because the new Beast has heated leather seats... Ahhhhhhhhh

FWIW, I plugged my 7.3 in when it was below freezing.....when I remembered.
