Gentlemen,

If you would be willing, I would love to join your North Texas Chapter. I am a South Texas Native that is displaced in Oklahoma until the next oil bust. Then we're heading back home. TexasCTD informed me that yall have a Dyno appointment and camp out the weekend of April 21st. I believe that is the weekend that I will be driving to New Braunfels to pick up my new front replacement bumper from Brown's Welding so If you guys have the time, I'd love to meet all of you and put a face to a screen name.

AggieJustin, I have a brother-in-law from Giddings TX named John Schimank, do you happen to know him?

Anyhow, thanx guys.

LT

Come on ahead bud.

Mike, I'm not sure. A buddy of mine is running these injectors and he likes them. Said they make nice cool power but we shall see.

Well I got all the holes drilled for the crossover steering. Drill press made quick and easy work of the pitman arm. Had it knocked out in less than five minutes. Don't know why everyone said it was such a pain. The knuckles were a lot harder to drill out but even they only took 20 mins. I don't have it installed yet as I'm tired and I have to be up at 5:30 for a golf tournament on the other side of houston where they served you a different home brewed beer at every hole. I'll give yall a report on the steering tomorrow evening.

Come on down! We're always ready to meet DTR members.

Do you plan on meeting at the dyno or coming to Sadelia? If you plan on Sadelia, PM me your email address and I'll get you some directions.

Well guys starting on the head about noonish today... Wish me luck

Any new info on head stud torque sequence... Was going to use this from Don:

"In steps like this:

55, 85, 110. Drive easy for a few days. Keeping boost down.

After a bit of the driving above: loosen one stud at a time starting from the center and working around in a circular motion. This time go 55, 85, 110 and finally 122-125 ft lbs with the moly.

If you had the older style gasket and o-rings I would go back in there and do it again one more time before really applying the powewr.

Don~"

Pray that I don't knick that dang modified gasket!!

Good luck on the assembly! I'm sure you'll do-it-right-the-first-time.

Not starting till Noon. That's confidence!

So it's two different retorques...but three times around the circle each retorque? Makes sense. First time I read this (long ago) I thought he was saying 55...drive for a while, 85...drive for a while, etc..... and could not understand.

Don't forget to go clockwise from center...that's just in the northern hemisphere.

Knowing how precise you are, just remember it's hard to screw it up! If I told you how badly mine was done... before I discovered they did it wrong and retorqued it myself, a yr later... you would wonder how it held up.
Four times around on the final retorque sounds like overkill, but who am I to argue with Don? I did 80, 100, 125. Took this old back all day.

Good luck! Pics of new head?

Question from re-reading Don's directions. Is it loosen between each added pressure increment, or just before the 55 psi? I just went up to next level...but it was all new to me, back then.

Ya mom wont be back until noon today... Going to get started a little earlier than that just to get the truck pulled back in the shop, get tools laid out, weld in a bung for my cold pipe, etc...

Not looking forward to torque process or valve adjustment.. My back can hardly take the abuse!! Have to use 30w oil cause I was a dummy and didn't order any ARP moly lube...

I believe that you increment torque without loosening... Then after some heat cycles, loosen one at a time and torque again.. My understanding. I know some people never loosen them and just check to see if they move at 122

Rowland,

It was great meeting you yesterday at the dyno run. Sorry I took so long on the dyno. They must have had it on the Ford setting.

After you left, they were talking about running the RPM sensor on the drive shaft. Made sense to me, but I don't think my boots would have held. If they held, I'm not sure my headgasket would have held. Time for studs!
