Dan, what's the price like of those 3" 90*s? Are they steel?

I have a great source for schedule 10 304SS fittings, which are much lighter than schedule 40.

At Emory, once, a JD mechanic who was watching said he could hear it. I did not notice it myself. But I have felt/heard piston float. Feels like a too small turbo when it stops pulling and levels off.... and sounds kind of like a faint woooosh!

500 hp seems to be the starting point for slap. Have seen lots of pictures on the DTR in the 500-600 range, when guys remove their head.

My pistons showed no signs of valve contact... Was actually extremely pleased at how the block, cylinders, pistons.. looked was very pleased.. Wish I could say the same for my worn out head lol....

Have I mentioned lately that I miss my truck?? Almost as bad as Charlies Hates the cold!!

Did you inspect the intake plenum for exhaust/soot?

As much as we like to think that they are, these Cummins engines are definately not indestructible.

I wonder and ponder all the time, how far do I want to go with this bombing! I have been content with barely (on paper) staying ahead of Tyler.. Then I read threads about GreyRig05 making 800+ and think....wow....that would be kewl!! Then I start reading about BrIan's hg and Dan talking about oil leaks....and think GEEEESH.....What am I thinking??

If you are gonna play, you are rolling the dice for some sort of failure. If you play with fire, at some point you are gonna get burned. Decisions Decisions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its whatever they use at a Gas/Diesel transfer station in Arlington. AND for the hot pipe, you want to use a stout piece for support and heat retention. I bet schedule 40 is a bit overkill.....but should work just fine.

What is the conversion from schedule to inches? Isnt 40 about 1/4"?

In a 3" IPS size, sch 40 wall is .216", while sch 10 is .120".

Of course, the lighter sizes, such as sch 5, weigh less than half as much and have a ~15% greater flow-cross section.

3" sch 160XXS is almost 5/8" wall, and 19#/ft.!

Then there are many different choices when you get into the SS tubing.

I have heard/read SS is less desirable for Twins. I think it was because more likely to crack from heat cycles & vibration. Make sense??
Just being one of those Armchair experts we all dislike....repeating what we heard without really knowing.

Well if you make it thick enough...i bet it would work...but who wants to buy 1/4" stainless!??!$$$$?!??!$$$$$?

I can tell you from sawzaw experience, stainless is WAY harder than regular metal! haha....turned my teeth on my premo metal blade into something out of Deliverance. Plasma works tons better! haha.....

Well just got off the phone with RayMac... Talked to him about my guides. Wanted to make sure they arrived this morning as planned. Turns out that 18 of my guides were shot... Some of the bad ones were off up to .045" !!! The ones that were like that actually let the valve move when it opened and the when it closed the valve would slide over back into its seat (could see the rub marks on the seat )...

Head is getting ringed right now (I think), supposed to get the guides bored out in the morning and the new ones pressed in and trimmed. Then the valve job, then the springs will be set, etc...

Talked to him about the scrap heads for those who were interested... He says he scraps them and gets a per lb for the steel... I imagine steel scrap is going for about .15 to .20 per lb right now... I think he would let some of them go for less than that for me, we will see... Thought the tractor pull weight idea was cool!!

Got the thuren's track bar installed tonight. Man you talk about a night and day difference. The heim on that DT bar was shot to pieces. The thuren's is dang tight and the guy I had weld it on made the welds perfect. They look like they are from a machine. Much like mikes. I can't wait to put the crossover steering on tomorrow.
