Fiance has a TDI jetta to drive to work and for us to get groceries/xmas shopping. we even put a tree on the roof yesterday. Good times!
Let me get this straight, if I break my ECM........ I can talk my wife into letting me get a MAD ECM?.....................Hmmm..............

I better just stick with the VA I have been hinting about.

It's a possibility, where abouts is this?

Would be nice to put a face to some of the names I see here regularly.

More people and trucks!!!

Thanks for checking in fellas. Sorry about the "Pittston" thing. That's what we've always called the place. Turns out that it is on the Pittston/Avoca border. I've changed the location in the post.

The Avoca zip code is: 18641 I will post directions just as soon as I verify the exit numbers. (they changed them a while back)

I'm still waiting for votes on wether it should be Sat. or Sun. And is noon a good time??

There are two dyno shoot-outs at Kaufmann's Motorsports down near the Harrisburg PA area. I went to one and had a great day. We could arrange to convoy to one of those. That would be sweet!

--------- ------------ -------------- ------------

Overkill, you went to fix your truck and you broke it instead?

Ya, I can relate to that one.

-------------

My truck died this weekend. I drove up to CT to meet some dieselheads for the first time for and stuff. The day went great. Saw a bunch of trucks and great people. Buuut I had some trouble on the way home.

I posted a condensed version on the other site. I'm not the best storyteller so I didn't do it justice, but here it is.

I had a good time today. What a bunch of good, friendly people. I will definitely make another trip one day.

Thanks for the invite!

As for the trip home........

My truck quit running on I-84 in Stormville, N.Y. I've been stranded about four hours now. I should be back in PA late tonight. I have to leave the truck in N.Y. for a while. Long story.

I will fill you in when I get back to PA.

I am whupped! Didn't get much sleep last night. Which would have been just fine if today had kept going nice and smooth. But it didn't. I'm tired. I'm sore from standing/walking/working in the cold all day. First I'll gripe and then I'll give you the twist.

Here goes:

After taking on some fresh diesel, I'm merging with traffic just West of the CT border and I have my foot in it. The Jammers are having a good time with the Blue Chip and they're yellin' through the 5". Life is great.

Theeennn, the truck starts missing. I convince myself that it was a fluke. I see a little bit of smoke now. Power is dropping off. I'm stuck in the slow lane because the truck won't accelerate. And I have to slow down for a rig. I drop it into fourth and hope I can make the hill that I'm climbing.

I end up going some ridiculous speed on the interstate. I crest the hill so I let it coast. I spotted a rest stop and headed for it. The engine died and the steering became tough. I barely made it to a parking spot and then of course the brakes were tough. At least I made it.

I try bleeding off the injectors thinking that maybe the pusher pump hadn't been able to keep up. Everything else checks ok. I hadn't gotten any check engine light. I bring up the codes and try to remember which ones were which. We're dead in the water.

I had a 2004 copy of the TDR Travel Companion in my truck and I try a number. I use half of my quarters to find out that the area code had changed. The other half went to find out that the cell phone # was no longer in service.

I try to call my father in PA. His phone won't accept collect calls. I don't have money for a hotel. No money for a big tow bill. I can't keep my truck at the rest stop. Can you imagine the funk I was in?

More to follow.

So I take a long shot. I call up an alternate number in the companion book.
(a collect call to a total stranger and I don't know if the alternate number is good either) The automated service asks my name, I say "TDR broken down member".

~Hello? (older lady) Hello, I'm a TDR member and I'm stranded. A what?~

So long story short, it was her son that had listed the house number. She would have called him, but he left his cell phone at home. See how my luck is going?

Here's where things changed drastically. Out of the blue she offers to drive over to where he works to see if he's there late. (I find out later that she doesn't get around well) She is going to call me back to let me know the outcome.

A phone call never came. I call collect again on the payphone. The service says that the person won't accept the call. I'm about to get funky again.
On a whim I call back one more time a little later.

HE answers the phone. As soon as he said he's not a TDR member anymore, I thought oooo boy.

I told him my story. From that point on it was all him and his mother. To say that they were friendly and helpful would be a gross understatement.

He called my father and told him where I would be and that i needed a ride. He arranged a wrecker. He payed for the wrecker and told me I could take care of it later. He arranged a secure place to park it. He invited me to his home. They fed me dinner!

You CT boys know how I like to eat.

He fired up his computer and told me I could log on to the TDR. (that's how I sent that message) I never once even hinted at any of this. They just kept doing and doing. Talk about generous and trusting.

The list goes on. My Christmas present came early this year. It was the gift of kindness. Of compassion.

Absolutely! I definitely have the Christmas Spirit this year.

When we were parting ways this weekend (I'll see him again when I pick up my truck) was:

"Pay it forward".

Someday, somewhere, I will.

Im well connected with friends and toys. If there is a strong enough interest I may be able to convince a fiend to get his dyno out. He has a mobile unit

Wow, a dyno?

There is a perfect spot for one there. The fuel/restaurant are up on a hill. There is a dirt parking area below that will be great for overflow and it's not within direct view of the plaza. It belongs to Petro's too.

So far there's a lot of interest.

Either way, thanks for checking in.

Petro's Truck Stop in Avoca PA. January 7th or 8th. High noon?
I will post a specific date and time soon. Any preference?
