OBX Bounty Hunter Diesel Drags-Results

For those of you that were not able to attend this event, you missed a GREAT TIME!

I want to start off by SINCERELY thanking Jess and Buck Spruill for putting this event on! Jess, thanks for the invitation to run my 96' Dodge CTD in the "Pro-Street Class!" It was an experience I will never forget.

The location of this event was the "Outer Banks Speedway" in Edenton, N.C.
I have lived in N.C. since 1995 and have to say that I had never been to this track until today! It has to be one of the nicest drag race tracks I have been too! My thanks also to all of the workers that helped make this event possible. I know that our entire group was treated great and the staff went out of their way to see that everything was done right. This included the track crew at the staging lanes taking sqeegees and removing the water for us before the four wheel drive trucks ran! Personally, I had NEVER seen that done at any drag strip I have been at!!

For those of you that were not there, Jess and Buck Spruill fielded an eight
(8) truck "Pro-Street" Class including; Jeff Garmon, Darren Morrison, Phillip Palmer in the "Stuckey Drag Truck", Buck Spruill in his Duramax, myself, Jess
the orange NADP Truck and another Duramax. They also had a good field of Bracket Racing for the diesel trucks.

In my qualification run, I ran a 7.36 @ 94.69 and was the seventh qualifier out of eight. This is my fastest 1/8th mile run since Scheid Diesel built my engine and I credit that to a set of "Caltrac Traction Bars" which I installed prior to this event. They worked GREAT completely eliminating the wheel hop I have had in previous runs. My thanks to my Son John Jr. (banshee) for helping me getting them dialed in and to John Calvert @ "Calvert Racing" building such a great set of traction bars.

Here are the numbers from my time slip on that qualification run:

Reaction------ .085
60 ft.-------- 1.65
330 ft.--------4.7
1/8th E.T.---- 7.36
1/8th MPH----94.69

From this qualifier, I ended up having to race the highly respected Jeff Garmon in his Rocketship in the first round!! I did beat Jeff at the lights and lead about halfway down the track until he "reeled me in" and beat me! Jeff, it was an honor to line up with you!

I also want to congratulate my Son John Jr. (banshee) who had the fastest qualifiying run in the bracket racing with an 8.0 @ 86 MPH in the 1/8th mile with his 2004 Dodge CTD CR, 4X4, 6-SPEED!!! This was his personal best in the 1/8th mile also.

I did record some of the times of the other "Pro-Street" Trucks and will try to get those posted for everyone tomorrow.

DTR Member 35"05' (Chet) was with us again to video some of the runs and should have those up soon for everyone to see.

Buck and Jess Spruill,.......THANK YOU FOR PUTTING ON SUCH A GREAT EVENT!!

One thing I forgot to say...................................

Phillp Palmer set another record in the 1/8th mile today by running a 6.14 @ 118 MPH in the Green "Stuckey Drag Truck!" That truck is FAST!!!

Congratulations to their entire Crew!

I managed to make it down to the event saturday and watch most of the runs. It was a great time, the track was great but the weather was a little warm if you stood out in the sun for very long. Otherwise a first class event.

Also walking around I spoke with the Stuckey racing guys, great people, they were handing out pictures of the truck and were happy to explain some of the things they did to get the truck where it is today. I also talked with Buck and Jess about their trucks. They pleased to sit and talk in between runs about their trucks and what they had done to them or were planning to do next, very cool guys.

I don't know how to respond to your post squirlchasr919. I was there, part of the DTR group of trucks lined up. I wasn't there to witness the treatment you described in your above post. I'm surprised to hear of such treatment. Hopefully it's just a matter of perception. From my experience everyone in the club was more than willing to show of their goods and pass along any helpful information.

squirlchaser:

I have edited your post somewhat as I want things to stay positive here.
Buck and Jess Spruill worked very hard to put this event on and I would like to stay focused on that.

The member I believe you are referring to is "dperf", namely, Bobby Downes.
You metioned the twin CP-3's, so that has to be his silver 2006 Dodge CTD CR.

I can tell you that Bobby Downes is a great guy and in no way was he trying to be rude or anything. I know for a fact that both he and I opened our hoods over twenty times yesterday showing people at the event what the engines looks like etc. I wish you had still introduced yourself before leaving but maybe at the next event we can meet.

I would encourage you to send Bobby a P.M. and express your concerns to him there. I know if you met him, you would agree he is a knowledgeable, friendly guy who will go out of his way to help any other DTR Member which he did yesterday.

Thank you!

I sure hated I had to miss this one. Jeff, Darren and Earl all said they had a great time and it was a fun race. Still wish I could have been there.

Congrats on the great run John...

Thanks buddy!!

My qualifying run time of 7.3 was darn good but I guess I could have done better against Jeff! I gave him a run off the line though but he caught me down near the middle. MAN those "Pro-Trees" are FAST!!!!!!

Thanks for the replys Mike and John, I did make is sound a bit negative, but that was how I felt after it happened. The more I had a chance to "cool down" and think about it the more I was sorry I put up the negative remarks. Thank you for cleaning that up by the way, what is important was the event itself and the popularity of diesel performance, not my slighted view at the time.

I'll be sure to approach everyone at the next event with an open mind. It looks like with Buck and Jess living so close to that track, they will be trying to make a diesel event a part of the regular schedule? With any luck I'll be able to get my own truck down there and give you guys a decent run.

Thanks again, and I'll see all you guys next time.

Just wanted to say thanks to Jess and Buck for putting on a great event.

I would like to thank all the Pro-street trucks for coming out and putting on a fantastic race! The crowd loved the diesel class!

Congrats to John_P for his run in the Pro-street class! Also, congrats to Banshee for his great run in the six speed and to Bobby for his inaugural run with the silver 06'.

I'm looking forward to the next event at the Rock.

A few members of the DTR crew were instrumental in the success of a bracket racer who did very well and drove a FORD..
