North Texas DTR#8 May GTG
Funny you mention that. My guys down here were thinking the exact same thing.
I'm all for it. Need to know early since I have to schedule off work. My boss is actually turning this company into a business and we actually have to do business like things like schedule days off and what not.

Well I sold my 5th wheel RV Trailer Monday! Well I have a verbal agreement to a sale anyway. Hopefully Today (Tuesday) we will complete the money exchange and delivery. This guy and his wife came and looked at it last Friday, the first day it ran in the DMN. They liked it but wanted to go home and pray about it. Well apparently the good Lord up above gave them to the go ahead to make the purchase!
Once I make this run to Missouri over MD weekend, I will have the title in hand to the Weekend Warrior...and Im already pre-approved for the loan. So if we decide to go and camp out at Alvarado I should have a place for most of us to sleep, with A/C and bathroom facilities, kitchen etc etc. I will be taking it to Arkansas in June.
That one with a loader full of fluids will still be over 10k (8166lb dry weight 2 wheel drive no loader).... Way pushing the limits of that trailer... I'd play it safe and let him pull it, id take something else better within the trailers cap... BTW most 7k axles I have seen lately including mine (changing as we speak) are equipped with E rated tires only good for around 2900 or so lbs, a far cry from the 3500 that is needed for a 7000lb axle!!
I agree it will be pushing the limits of everything. Truck, Trailer etc. Whoever pulls it....(me or him) we will be making frequent stops to check things out (tire heat etc.) and driving slow.
Tonight coming home from work, I played around with my tow/haul mode on my truck locking out 4th gear. At 65mph in 3rd gear im running around 2500 rpms. If I pulled it and stayed between 60 and 65 I think the truck will pull it without even breaking a hard sweat.
The tires are definately going to be the weak link in all of this.
By the way, I told Jim back when he bought that GN trailer....he should have got tandem duals. He wouldn't listen. I know he was on a tight budget getting it so he had to make a compromise somewhere. Well this was it.
He has made numerous trips pulling miscellaneous farm equipment and all kinds of stuff with the trailer with no problems. But this is the one BIG thing left to haul.
After it is done....I doubt the tractor will ever leave the Missouri property again for many many years.
Like I said....the choice is mine if I want to pull it or let him do it. Sure would be nice to see a real LOAD behind my truck and feel that Cummins torque working. Pics would follow of course.
