N. Texas DTR#8 - July Meet - Update
I wasn't sure if I was even going to dyno......no change since the last 2.
But that does suck that Bob can't keep his commitment!
Also, for those of you who know him (he came to a couple of our events).....looks likes TBone is selling off his CTD! https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...?product=11902

OK guys story time…. Kinda long if you don’t have time skip…
As a general rule of thumb I try to keep the truck as far away from mud holes and the like as possible…. That being said:
Yesterday afternoon I was at my house getting things ready to go back to school for Physics II that started today.. Ug My neighbor came over and asked if I would mind pulling him and his buddy out of the mud… asked what happened and he told me his neighbor in a “street” jeep went back through the trails on his land and managed to sink the truck to the frame… Then my neighbors great idea was to go and try and pull the jeep out with his 2 wheel drive expedition!! Well he was stuck as well….
I agreed thought it would be kinda fun and not take too long…. Fired up the yota (first crank in about a month and didn’t even act like it didn’t want to start… 270,000 and counting baby!!
) and drove down to his land.. locked in the hubs and worked my way back to where the vehicles were stuck… a couple good sized mud holes on the way… Got to the jeep and quickly attached a strap and pulled him out no big deal… I suggested to go back the way he came, but he insisted it would be easier to continue on… Well he made it 10’ and no forward motion again! So pulled him out again and tag teamed the jeep with the yota and pulled him to safety. Returned and tried to pull the expedition out… The truck was at an angle and I just couldn’t get eh traction to pull him outright… Well after some though someone thought of a great idea to get the dodge and keep it up on the so called dry land and link some straps together… ya ok… So traversed the mud holes and arrived at the ‘dry ground’ I could tell it was a little soft, but I wasn’t sinking but a half inch or so… Well lined out the straps threw her in reverse and easily tried to pull back… before the strap was even tight I just sank… front axle embedded in the mud…

So I have a slight problem here…. Truck is stuck in the mud nothing even comes close to the size of the dodge… well got the highlift out and the air jack and some landscape timbers… Jacked one side of the truck up at a time (Thank you ranch hand….
Not many jacking points when the truck is on the axle and then some…. Was a struggle to get the highlift under the ranch hand even!!! ) well between the two jacks we were able to jack each side up enough to get two landscape timbers under each front wheel and angled fairly easy… hooked the yota up to the rear and a big quad ahead of the yota… Pulled out pretty easy.. got it on some high ground and barely got through the mud I had to go through to get to that point… (Dragged the rear diff housing for about a hundred feet!!
)…
Anyway dodge was free, played the same jacking game with the expedition about 6 times at different spots and managed to get it out as well…
Moral of the story no 8,000lb truck in the soft ground!! I’m not going to say the 4wheel drive sucks in these trucks like a lot of the threads I see… 4x4 worked great!! All wheel were spinning what else do you want!! Truck just too heavy!
Yota never got stuck going all over the place back there!! Love that truck!
Anyways sorry it was long… Was about a 4 hour event!!

My old '86 Ford with the 300 I-6 was a pulling son of a gun when it was daily driven......
Well got my funny out of the way… I have some minor issues that are still annoying me that I would like your opinion on…
First off hard start is still present… Hasn’t happened since last week while I had the truck nose pointed down hill over night…. Once again crank 1sec.. let prime crank 5sec fires runs rough white smoke… clears in about 30-45secs all fine… pulls great… I haven’t had a hard start pointing up hill or flat in a few weeks, but when that happens just prime crank no white smoke no rough idle, just good to go… About to remove the clear line I have from the filter to the VP as I have seen no air whatsoever in that line… I maybe want to replace the overflow valve thingy… Anybody know where I could get one?? Maybe I should just pull it and check the pressure it opens first? 14psi or something?
Have a click I think towards the rear of the truck… can hear it going by a wall or building or something… changes with speed… I could not replicate the sound with the rear axle on jack stands ran through gears 1-4 no click… with engine off rotating the tires no click… I pulled the axle and brake caliper and saw nothing odd… bearing turned freely no catches… I tried to wiggle the u-joints and couldn’t detect any movement… Any ideas?? Honestly I couldn’t even hear it today, but I imagine it is still there…
More effort required to get in gear from a stop, think the upgraded hydraulics will help this… Peter seems to think so anyway… just feels like the pedal needs an extra ½” of travel in order to completely release the clutch..
Ooooo I remember the other one… bear with me I’ll try to describe the best I can… I have the weirdest wear pattern on my front pass tire that have ever seen… when looking at the lugs from the side it seems as though the left side (towards the rear of truck) are much lower that the front of the lugs?? If I were to put a level on the top of the tire on one of the lugs the level would be much higher on the side toward the front of the truck and lower at the rear… Or looking at it from the side the right side of the level is higher… Make any sense?? Only tire that is doing it…. Wish I could say I have been rotating these tires like I should but nope!! Trucks alignment was checked when the tires were put on…. Truck tracks pretty straight with a slight pull to the right… steering wheel requires a slight turn to the left to maintain straight travel…. Always been that way…
Appreciate any help
One last thing of less importance… Want to replace my fuel pressure gauge line with a ss braided line with 1/8” swivel fittings on the ends… Where do I go to get one made or ordered?? Summit doesn’t have one long enough? Uhhhh I dunno….

Have some one drive your truck as you ride in the bed!
That is what i would do first. Try to locate the position of the noise. Then go to pulling crap apart. My first though was u-joints....but you can't always judge a u-joint by play. You got some power in your ride....dont rule out that carrier.....ALSO....was it there before the clutch?Ooooo I remember the other one… bear with me I’ll try to describe the best I can… I have the weirdest wear pattern on my front pass tire that have ever seen… when looking at the lugs from the side it seems as though the left side (towards the rear of truck) are much lower that the front of the lugs?? WHY? For looks i can see....other than that..............
Hate to say it...but might call Tyler and see if his hard start went away with his new VP. BUT man...im starting to lean to your injectors and such.....
I like responses!! Been emailing Tyler and his hard start is exactly opposite of mine... Park his uphill and he will have a hard start... Maybe some more information to hel pin your diagnosis.... It seems with the warmer weather that after the truck has been ran for a while and heats up when getting off the throttle quickly I get the RPM drop to 500-600 back to 850 or whatever... sometimes it will bounce around for a sec... Make your lean one way or the other more??
Hey dumb, dumb!

Plan on that soon... Say at an upcoming meet??? Carrier is 130000 old could be I dont know how much play is acceptable in it... Was there before the clutch (Thank God), If those u-joints can't handle 1,000ftlbs of torque I'm going to have to throw the yota shaft in there!!
Ya ok maybe not
My first guess would be toe. AND then Shocks.....BUT a bad shock usally causes a "Spotty" tread over period of time. You usally see what you are seeing with trucks that pull some good loads. First rule of thumb.....ALWAYS ROTATE YOUR TIRED EVERY 7000 MILES! I got my last set of MT/R's to last 45,000 with some to spare.....if you havent had you aligment check in the last 4,000 miles....i wouldn't put much faith in it if you are seeing ware......
Would an out of toe adjustment cause wear on both tires or just the one??? Ya normally I'm great about tire rotation... Not the case lately... Guess I dont know what "Spotty" tread is?? Will check the shock for signs of oil leakage

After i hit the fire hydrant last year with my truck.....ask any of the 3 guys (Charlie, Rowland, and Rob) that showed up for that "106*F Hell on Earth Day" that i picked to move my stuff out of my house. My tow was WAY off...but drove ok....and wore my left fnt slick on the outside edge from MO with that big ole 48' trailer behind me. Right fnt actually faired fine. All with in 500 miles........
Here is a bunch of pics from the clutch install and the aftermath of the truck being stuck! Doesn't look like much, but the mud on the front dif gives you and idea.... Took me 2 hours to wash to outside and the underside of the truck.... Ok maybe 2 for the underside and another hour for the outside...

Well I started the above listed thread in the "Competition" section hoping for some help in finding another Mobile Dyno. No response. Looks like that event is a dead deal for sure. Pretty sorry of Bob to leave everybody hanging like that. Who would have thought?
