R.i.p. Vp44?
R.i.p. Vp44?
Coming back from Rausch Creek on Saturday the truck died on the side of the road. (83 about 60 miles from home) Got it towed to a friend's house in Seven Valleys Pa.
Fuel pressure was good up till then and when cranking quick and letting the pump run it is at 14. I am going to check the fuel filter today, but is that a waste of time since I have pressure on the edge gauges? My next guess is that the VP44 died on me at 200k+. I am sure everyone will say that it lived longer than it should have but it still sucks!
Where is the best place to get a replacement?
Thanks

No codes. Just won't start.
Some other stuff that happens. When cranking on the engine it will sputter when you let off the key after cranking for a while. When getting in to the throttle randomly it would lose power, the low pressure alarm would go off but only for a second or two and then return to normal, and almost every morning when I would first put it into gear it would stall as soon as I gave it fuel, then restart and be fine the rest of the day. If I have pressure on the edge monitor then it should not be the fuel pump right? I was thinking about cracking open the injectors and seeing what happened.... I would really like to get it to the cave (if Scott will let me) but have no means to tow it yet.

Change the FF & try cracking a few injectors. Might be able to get it started and down to the Cave.
Then start shopping for an new VP44. Blue chip, Mid west fuel injection, Industrial injection are just two to start with. Ask them about warranty and taping the wire. BD has a new pump out and i think they allow taping the wire.

did you get any fuel leaking/squirting out of the lines when you cracked them?
also try cracking the bleeder port just slightly at the FF and cycling the lift pump to push any air out then close and try cranking again.
i agree that its prolly the vp44 that died, but its worth a try.

Can you get a price for me? Just send me a PM

this sounds like the lift pump is dead id you cracked the drain valve at the fuel filter housing then when you turn the truck on and start cranking you should get fuel if the vp-44 is good or bad the lift pump is the one providing the flow then. wonder if you have a hole in the pick up tube in the tank and your lift pump is sucking air or the lift pump could be dead.
