I didn't think our trucks even had crank position sensors... I know there is a cam position sensor.....
98-00 uses a crank sensor for the tach pickup, and has a cam sensor tho i dont think it really does anything.

01-02 does not have the crank sensor and uses the cam sensor only for picking up tach signal.

Funny Story!!!

So my daughter is 16 and has her learners. Once she gets her license she'll most often drive the truck for a while so this past weekend I wanted her to be comfortable with it.

She gets in the truck - turns the key, and the motor stumbles and quits, stumbles and quits, stumbles and quits - with complete panick she says "Daddy it won't start!!!!"

Me: Did you wait for the "Wait to Start" light to go out?

Her lesson was learned.

IT seems that everyone has gone their separate ways and moved on. Too bad, we had some good times together.
I'll try this summer and do something. Maybe a wrenchin day with a bonfire.

Random MAP codes from computer. MAP has been replaced. Next? Unplug the Comp and see if it continues? I assume I can just unplug the MAP and turn off the box for testing?

Remove the comp's MAP connection, but make sure you plug the factory harness back into the MAP or you will have 0psi boost and no power (ECM sees no boost and cuts back fuel, i've done this before )

If the MAP is new and the code still shows up, then I would think you are correct in that something is faulty in the comp or its harness when its sending the signal to the ECM.

I should be able to do that soon. I'm in Colorado right now picking my new to me 36' Montana fifth wheel. Dad gave it to me, just had to drive 1700 miles to get it one way.

Still around. Had to do the contacts in the starter this past weekend. My daughter has been driving it and went up the Buck for the final event. Once it was a bit warm from towing the starter was clicking. So I didn't wait.

Man that top bolt on the starter was trouble! Tiny little bolt but being in there for 12 years I guess was hard to break loose. Sucks being old and arthritic!

Oh well - done now and running well. MAP issues seem to have gone away after thorough cleaning of the contacts.

Oh - also had to put a screw and washer in the top hole of my passenger door panel as the plastic broke. Painted it with left over gauge pod paint.

Still proud of my old truck! Have a buddy getting ready to buy a 2013 so I'll have to learn them now I guess. Yaaaa DEF!!!
