My "beater" is a diesel, so I didn't know how to answer. lol. Well I have a 1991 VW diesel, and I'm currently getting 50mpg out of it. It doesn't even have a turbo. I have to replace the timing belt on it, but that is CHEAP. I love my truck though, wish I could afford to do all the long driving in it.

$3.399 for fuel down this way. I'd buy a beater if I could afford it. Seriously thinking about selling the 5th wheel though. If prices stay this high I won't be able to afford to go any where with it.

THAT sounds interesting.

I have a 1991 Civic that is looking more and more like a ghetto cruiser everyday. It's like driving a go-cart. Had it two years this August, put about 32K miles on it so far.

But, 34 MPG vs. 17 in the truck, and I get to keep the miles low (value up) on the truck at the same time.

Nope, the 4.0L is a very tough motor, as long as they are maintained they have 200k or more in them. I know that the jeep that I bought had the motor replaced at 181k, so I would think that you should have at least 80k or so left in that one as long as it is maintained.
