Lookin at a new (to me) truck, help...
Hey guys, I'm looking at a 2008 6.7 with the 6 speed Auto. Is that transmission a 48RE or something else? I know very little about the autos. Which transmission is it and will it stay together at stock power? It has 125K on it as of now..
All 6.7L trucks are mated to the 68RFE if it is an auto. I believe some users have posted that they have gotten better than 150,000 miles on them. Yes it will stay together at stock power.
I would also read this link on used trucks.

The 68RFE is a good auto. Much better than the 47 and 48's that came before it. They will stand up to stock power and even a little over (max 60hp). Dodge did a good job building that tranny, its always in the right gear and does not hunt. That, in combination with the engine brake and its a fantastic towing machine. Although you can wreck it by being silly, I can also wreck the Ford and Chebby tranny's too. Its all in how you drive.
If you get it, do the stealth deletes and your empty in town and highway mileage will go up substantially (at least 4 mpg). Towing, mine only went up about 1 to 1.5 mpg. The reason the towing mileage does not go up much is because you need X amount of horsepower to move your truck and trailer at Y speed. Some people claim more towing mileage, but there are many variables to consider.

ok, thanks guys. On the DPF delete what's the best way to do it? Other than the pipe what tuning has to be done and which tuner should I get to fix the computer? i'm not really interested in adding power
thanks for the info guys, unfortunately it had been turned up and the torque converter was slipping if you accelerate slowly. The whole truck would shake for about 2 seconds like it had a bad U joint. The dodge mechanic loaded his laptop in the truck and drove it with us... you could see the slippage on the screen, kinda cool I thought. It was nice to get to talk to somebody other than the salesman about the truck

they offered to put a $500 converter in it and pay for the labor... do they not realize there's chunks of the converter all through the trans or plugging the cooler? Found another one in Kentucky, might go look tomorrow
