Question 1990 w350 5.9 overcharging

Hi everyone, I have an old beat up meatgrinder that I've had for now on 14 yrs. and even though she is sorta like an old drunk "loud obnoxious and stinks" she's been good to me. Any way she is a 1990 w350 power ram 4x4 with a 5.9 12 valve cummins and I have been through one battery two voltage regulators and over the years two alternators. Recently I started having a problem with the alt. putting out 15 to 16 volts I have done all I know to do but the standard tests and checks are all good. I am suspecting that I am not getting the field voltage to the alt. I think that the problem is that no voltage is making it into or from the Ing. sw. to the regulator and on to the field terminal of the alt. to give a signal to the alt. that it needs to throttle it's output back down to the nominal output of 14 volts. Has anyone had a similar problem or extensive experience with this year model truck?
