interior lights

Hey guys the problem i am having is the interior lights arent staying on as long as they did Before i unhooked the batts. When open the door the lights come on and they only stay one for a few secs10 to 15 maybe. before they stayed on longer like a 30 seconds. How can i fix this? If I unhook the batteries for 15min will this help? and do i have to turn my smarty back to stock before un hooking thanks

Check the wiring to your doors. The hose that holds the wires that goes from the truck to the door. I found several of those wires broken or about to break when my driver side rear door window would not go down anymore. I'm about to check the other side (rear door) because when I open the door on that side the lights go out with in 1 to 2 seconds of opening the door.

If any of you find a solution, let us all know so if this happens to any of us in the future, we will know where to look to fix this problem.

ok guys after further investigation i found that the wire was broke (must have over looked it the first time). Its the Purple wire in the black rubber boot. Reconnected and now works great.

I had the same type problem. Check the plug in connector at the light itself. Mine was lose and when I tightened the connection all worked O.K.

There is a service letter for the 06 models having this issue. apparently the OP found another problem, but just be aware that the 06 models have a software issue that will cause the interior lights to power down after approx. 15 seconds although the door is open and/or the dome light override switch is in the on position.
Another symptom of the same software glitch is the temp. on the overhead display will read abnormally high and be slow to update to the correct temperature. I have seen several read as high as 120 degrees on a 70 degree day. Once the key is on and engine running, the temp. will slowly correct back to normal.
You can un-hook the batteries for approx. 1 hour and everything should reset for about a year.. Or you can have the local dealership perform the software update...

It sounds like the 06 model year was a bad year for electronics.

My 06 just started this a few weeks ago. No matter what you do the interior lights go off after about 5 to 10 seconds. I guess tomorrow I will try the battery disconnect and see if that works.

Glad to hear it worked....
I got lucky and caught mine doing it before the factory warranty expired, so I got the software update when it became available .... but unhooking the batteries is easier as you dont have to go the dealership!!!.
