Your owners manual should address this.

I don't believe Dodge wants you to, they want it on a trailer.

i don't think 10 miles is really going to hurt it all that much.

since its a 4x4 I would put the transfer case in N and go with it.

You want the trans in PARK, t-case in N. Rotation of the T case shafts can cause the output shaft on the trans to spin if it's (trans) in N. Without the engine running there is no lubrication so the shaft is freewheeling and can cause it to damage the OD piston retainer which ends up welding itself to the output shaft. This is real world experience at the extreme expense of others. I always suggest go with the "safe" route of simply unhooking the drive line and wiring it up out of the way.

Dirrectly from the 2004 dodge manual:
(manual shift transfercase)
1.Bring vehicle to complete stop.
2.Shut OFF engine
3.Depress brake pedal
4.Shift automatic trans into Neutral
5.shift T-case into Neutral
6.start engine
7.Shift automatic trans into reverse
8.Release brake pedal for 5 sec. to ensure no vehicle movement
9.Repeat steps 7 and 8 with trans in drive
10.Shut off ignition and place key in unlocked off position
11.shift trans into park
12.apply parking brake
13.attach vehicle to tow vehicle
14.release brake.
That should do it according to the manual (4x4 behind Rec. vehicle)
Hope that helped! Nick
