Wheel Studs/Nuts
Wheel Studs/Nuts
Too make a long story short, I lost all but 1 nut off left rear and, pretty scary
. It was hanging on by a thread Got shut down before it came off, thank god. Of course it wallowed out the holes on the outer wheel really bad, it's shot. Inner wheel is not bad and will work for spare.
The only place I have found wheel studs and nuts is @ the dealer :'(, $20 each for the stud and $9 each for the nuts.
Does anyone know where I can find them cheaper?
I am getting by using spare wheel and inner wheel BUT I am leaving next thursday for the holiday's and cannot drive 1k miles with it that way.
Any info is greatly appreciated.

Re:Wheel Studs/Nuts
A tire & wheel shop will have them..I rounded one off and they had one to replace it with. I went to Americas tire, but any good shop will have them..Its more common than you might think.

I had that a year ago on my right front tire. I was washing my truck to go to thanksgiving diner 200 miles away and noticed I had a missing lug nut. When I started checking it out I found anouther nut just sitting in the stud hole in the rim. I figured ok I still have 6 lugs left thats enough to get me 8 miles to town to the tire shop and they can put a couple new studs on for me. Got to the shop and when they put it on the lift and started checking the rest of them I only had 2 lugs left tight and they where side by side. 4 or 5 out of the 8 where broke off and 2 or 3 loose and 2 tight. all I would have had to do is make a hard left and they probobly would have all popped. They hunted for a long time and never could find any new lugs any where. I had to weight till after the holiday to get them from the dealer. They put all new studs on that tire to be safe. It wound up costing me $350 +. >
Re:Wheel Studs/Nuts
Something to look into... Those are hub centered wheels and as long as the hub center is ok some wear on the lug holes will not cause too much problem. All the lugs do is hold the wheel on to the hub, the center hole aligns it. If you have acorn nuts the nuts align the wheel, if they have flat washer on them the hub centers it.
Re:Wheel Studs/Nuts
FIRST thing I would check is WHO is the LAST one to have the wheels off, where they torqued to specs. On my 92, it says to torque the nuts to 350 ft. lbs., Guess that's what the 4ft steel rod is for. The last time I had my tires balanced, they just used a 1/2" impact to tighten the studs, still had a "goofy" ride, so I decided to check the torque on the front wheels. My granddaughter could have broke them loose. I jacked it up and torqued ALL the nuts to spec, still rides some what goofy, but with Firestone tires, what could you expect. If a tire shop did it, then they would be responsible for any and all damage.

Re:Wheel Studs/Nuts
Raybestos has a part # for the studs, I ordered some up at work last week. Sorry I don't have the part #. I have only found the dually flange nuts at the dealer. Damned costly, too.
Re:Wheel Studs/Nuts
torquefan,
I did find some studs locally. I also found some wheel nuts but they are 1 1/16" size nut but the same thread-9/16" 18 for only $2.68. As long as the washer isn't bigger they should fit. I am going to call them tomorrow and find out. Could be quite a savings.
Pumpdaddy,
I am to blame but they were torqued to 145 lbs ???.
Someome may be messing with me, had the right frt brake line blow out last week when exiting off the interstate. It was a nice clean cut. Used emergency brake to get stopped.
Now I have to figure out "WHO" I ****** off

Before purchasing, you would be wise to check with Chromewheel.com as he has quite a stock in this type of item and is real reasonable on price.
Copenhagen, look it over good before assuming it was cut, brake lines can do this. In 1966 I found myself in Germany at the top of a hill, overlooking the rest of the convoy with no brakes on a duece and a half pulling a trailer with all the tools and oil stocks for the engeneering department. Engine scrapped half way down in fourth gear, took several trees and another trailer distroyed to stop it, missed all the troop trucks etc. Totaled the truck and both trailers. No injuries except a finger was lost as a troop jumped over the side of a troop truck and caught his wedding ring. You know the ARMY, full investigation. The brake line was sheared clean, but was determined that it was a break, not a cut. Got a letter of commendation for handling the situation effectively instead of paying for the damage. A few thought that it was cut.
