Wheel bearings making noise
Wheel bearings making noise
I just installed a new set of wheel bearings ion my Cummins, and they are making a weird scraping sound when I drive. It is almost a high pitched griunding sound coming from the front end. What can this problem be?
I torqued the bearings down to 140lbs. Is this too high, or just the right amount? The steering is a bit tough as well, and the truck is wandering a bit.
Please help me

The correct torque is 180ftlbs on the hub bearings, 122 ftlbs on the hub bearing bolts. I would jack her back up and look to make sure it went back together. Like the hub spacer is on correct with the flat side to the rear etc. etc. Goodluck,,Rick
Yup, had the assembly on bacwards. I tore the whole thing apart, and put it together right. Now the noise is gone. I also found that the rubber bushings for the caliper (where the 2 bolts go in that hold the caliper to the mount) were missing. I found the clunking sound... All in all a good day.
