What is this? It was making a real loud noise while the truck was running, then i went to turn my truck off and the motor had trouble shutting off. Once the motor finally shut off this thing starting smoking real bad. Its down on the lower right hand side of the motor. Please help! thanks

 

That's your starter, dude. Unhook the batteries and take that thing off. You may have a bad relay or a bad starter...

I bet it was making a real loud noise if it was stuck on while the truck was running...

 

I figured it was the starter. Thanks. Well it wasn't real loud but may be because i have 5" straight pipe exhaust. lol

 

What year of truck?

If its a 12V you can damage your shutdown solenoid if you dont fix this asap

 

2000 24v... It only was running for like 3 min max...

 

So my next question is do i replace the starter or do i fix the old one? i have been reading that the new ones are Chinese junk and dont hold up to diesel motors...

I bought a new one from Napa- $179 without giving them my core. Spins her over like no other. reman was the same price but I had to give them my core.

 

Wow! I thought they would charge more than that.
