Warranty voided-possibly?
Warranty voided-possibly?
I took my '05 cummins with 72,000 km on it it was smoking a little under heavy throttle. A guy stopped me and said he had a similar problem on his '04 and they replaced all 6 injectors and cleared the problem. I take mine in they tell me my air filter and fuel filter were plugged (BS, air was done in the summer and no driving all summer and fuel was done 2 weeks back with last oil change. plus they would do an injection system clean.
Then they come back with "We need $5094.00 to replace 6 injectors! I said I should still have warranty. He said that in the bottom of the fuel filter cartridge bowl, is a yellowish particles and mold. I asked if a fuel sample had been taken, he said Dodge doesn't do samples, they had no one to suggest. So I had a Dodge tech take a sample for me to run with AGAT labs. The sample came back at 23,000 ppm of what misc. sedimentation Canadian Standards for fuel are 32,000 ppm. In addition to "nothing out of the ordinary to report.
Dodge dealer says it's contaminated. The evidence in the bowl proves it.
It turns out even if you drain your filter bowl, before you remove your filter. That the bowl does not completely drain. Dealer tells me that Dodge authorized service shops, have a "fuel filter canister vaccum" and that is the only way to clean it properly. $25 filter, $90 for 1 hour of service for a fuel filter? give me a break. I'm still holding out that the Bosch injectors are crap and the Dodge filtration sucks, and maybe mine came from the factory with some defect that does not allow it to drain fully.
So I'm attaching a pic. for everyone to see. Please check yours, take a pic ,post it for me to see.

I would pull the injectors and send them to formula one. don will replace the tips with a performance tip and completely rebuild then for 100 each if they need it. flux 1 tips and all six rebuilt should 1500 bucks in the range
I don't know how stringent Canada's consumer protection standards are, but I would own their tails if that were my truck.
Document what the dealer is telling you, if necessary lie to them and tell them to make you feel comfortable before spending the $$ that you want it in writing, but get it NOW.
They are feeding you so much baloney I think they have you pegged as their Christmas duck.
My filter housing looks a lot like that whenever I pull it off, LOL, havent ever took a pic though.

The bacteria mold factor is possible in diesel IF there is water and alot of it. It is frustrating to say the least. On top of it all they tell me if I go above them and talk to the regional manager for Dodge. That he may condemn the whole engine for warranty. If I pay them and they do the Dodge authorized work the warranty will stand. My unanswered question was what happens when my fuel pump crashes two, maybe eight months from now? Will the dealership look back and say "hey you had all 6 injectors replaced because of contaminated fuel, warranty won't cover that either!" I have yet to make a warranty claim in 10 years of driving new trucks "for the warranty" and the one time I call on it I get screwed!
Here is some interesting info for you boys to check out!

Wait a minute. IF you pay them, they will fix it and not void your warranty? Did I read that right? That sounds like a bribe. If the warranty is good, these items are covered. Are you sure you need injectors and they aren't taking this like you just wnat new injectors? Also, you have the right to talk to any DC management at any time about any issue.
You don't need any special tools to clean the bowl. Take it off and clean it. Also, what's left in the bowl is what the filter blocked, not what ran through the injectors.
It might be time to find a new dealer.

He's right...you may not have another dealer up there close, but you need to 1. Withhold your emotion when dealing with this dealer, an emotion-free response will go a long way. 2. Contact D-C customer service with details, photos, documentation, and also details of the dealer's "contract" with you to fix your truck. It's possible that this is a dealer that is in trouble with D-C and is trying to stay in business. 3. Document everything - including irrational demands form the dealer. Take names, and be specific when you contact D-C customer service. Whatever you do - do not say "This was bs" or other blanket statements. They need details, facts, and data.
Good luck - nasty situation to be in ...

But I've been calling around and Spruce Grove, Grande Prairie, Red Deer(Southside) and Great West Dodge have all had a half a dozen similar cases at each. But the in same city's GM and Ford dealers have had nothing and I know reputable diesel mechanics from both GM and Ford in Grand Prairie.
It's funny because: When I asked Dodge dealers if they had many cases of excess build up in the filter bowls, of the diesels they've serviced, they all said no. They also mentioned they had no fancy cleaning process. But when I asked about fuel contamination problems they said they have had cases. Hmmm? Plus they claimed that these guys with problems where probably using "industrial fuel"(?), from rig sites and bowsers with questionable fuel. Plus diesel trucks under 3 ton cannot run on "industrial fuel". I have to wonder if this is a buliten Dodge sent out because they all said it.
The AGAT rep who dealt with my sample, is the northern tech. rep. for "reputable" fuel stations samples, plus he takes samples from rental companies that run fuel bowsers (Alberta enviromental standards have pretty strict standards). And he was astonished that these dealers had such inaccurate knowledge about fuel and fuel storage. There is dyed "off road" fuel but the only difference between it and sales fuel is a red dye. But NO "industrial fuel". And ALL bulk fuel sold in Alberta comes for three refineries, with the same basic bilk grade standards. There are fancier grades for certain retailers.
The biggest problem I have is over 2 years I haven't dealt with the same fuel suppliers, or bowser rental companies.

I've been changing them at the most every other oil change, but last winter at least once a month. It was overkill but the wix filters were free through the job. And we were concerned about water in the fuel.
Even worse the dealer won't let me drive, I'll have to tow it and it is now flagged on the system.

Where are you getting your fuel from?
Ive been driving seconds gens for 6 winters now and Ive only had 1 fuel related issue and it was my own fault because I dont normall empty the fuel canister.
Good luck. I hope you can get it sorted out.

Traditional, it is your money, but I would drive the truck through their front window before I paid that kind of money.
This is a scam, pure and simple, and the sooner you let her rip, the better.
